About the Role

As the Community Development and Stakeholder Engagement Lead, you will be responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating community engagement initiatives that strengthen participation, social inclusion, and place-based outcomes for our communities.

The role fosters strong relationships across key stakeholder groups including community members, partner organisations, government agencies, peak bodies, and service providers and provide community capacity building support, training, grant writing, event management support, and mentoring to community leaders, community members, and community groups from migrant and refugee backgrounds supported by WSMRC and the Western Sydney Region Settlement Consortium (WSRSC).

This role will also have responsibility for overseeing and guiding a team of WSMRC staffs delivering essential community programs, youth services and other programs targeting young people and communities from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

Community Development & Capacity Building

• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of community development programs, projects, and events.

• Facilitate co-design processes that recognise lived experience, cultural knowledge, and local strengths.

• Identify emerging community issues, trends, and development opportunities.

• Support community groups, leaders, and volunteers to strengthen capacity and self-advocacy.

Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships

• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with government, non-government, community organisations, and local networks.

• Represent the organisation at community forums, advisory groups, and collaborative planning tables.

• Lead stakeholder mapping and engagement strategies to ensure inclusive participation.

Strategy, Planning & Reporting

• Contribute to organisational strategic planning, policy development, and community engagement frameworks.

• Develop project work plans, timelines, budgets, and evaluation measures.

• Prepare reports, funding proposals, presentations, and communication material.

Community Voice & Advocacy

• Promote meaningful community voice, inclusion, and participatory decision-making.

• Support advocacy priorities through evidence gathering, submissions, and stakeholder coordination.

• Ensure community perspectives inform service design and organisational planning.

Cultural Safety & Inclusion

• Ensure all engagement and development practices are culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and respectful.

• Work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, First Nations communities, and marginalised groups.

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, community services, or other relevant discipline with minimum 3+ years’ experience in the refugee/humanitarian OR a Diploma in a relevant discipline with 5+ years’ experience
  • Demonstrated experience with leading teams in a multidisciplinary team environment, including providing supervision, training, and performance management
  • A deep understanding of the community sector, including youth and settlement services, knowledge of CALD specific support services, and referral pathways within South West Sydney
  • Skills and experience developing and delivering training and/or providing mentoring support focussed on community capacity building, including leadership, governance, grant writing, and event management for new community groups or associations
  • Skills and experience developing, implementing, and coordinating youth programs
  • Proven experience in collaborating with a range of stakeholders to develop and implement programs and initiatives to help clients and communities to strengthen skills and capacity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • High-quality written reporting skills, including demonstrated ability to support compliance and completing reporting to funding bodies
  • Demonstrated ability in utilising WSMRC Organisation systems such as: Microsoft365 and Customer Relationship Management software etc
  • Able to supply a valid Working with Children’s Check and current National Criminal History/Police Clearance

Desirable:

  • Fluency in a relevant community language.
  • Lived experience relevant to the communities we engage with in the WSMRC areas.
  • Experience in grant writing, monitoring & Evaluation, or data-informed community planning.
