Expression of Interest: This is an Expression of Interest for future opportunities. By submitting your application, you'll join our talent community and be considered when an opening matches your profile.

If you know your field and you love helping people grow in it, this is where that expertise becomes something lasting.

WEA Co — The Community College is building a pool of qualified Trainers and Assessors to deliver accredited vocational programs across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands. We’re not advertising a single vacancy — we’re inviting expressions of interest from people who want to be part of something bigger, and who’ll be matched to opportunities as the right programs come together.

This isn’t a call for generalists. It’s a call for people with real industry experience and the skills, credentials and heart to bring it into the classroom in a way that genuinely changes what learners believe is possible for them.

About the Role

Trainers and Assessors at The Community College deliver high-quality accredited training and conduct competency-based assessment within our RTO (RTO 90297). The role works in partnership with our Program Specialists to deliver programs aligned to learner needs, industry requirements, and ASQA regulatory standards.

This is a community-facing role, not just a classroom one. You will work with diverse cohorts of adult learners — including people with language, literacy, numeracy and digital skill needs — and you’ll be expected to bring patience, professionalism and genuine engagement to every interaction.

What this looks like in practice

  • Delivering high-quality accredited training aligned to training package requirements and learner needs
  • Conducting competency-based assessment that is valid, reliable, fair and flexible
  • Providing clear, timely and constructive feedback to support learner progression
  • Maintaining accurate and compliant student records, including sufficient assessment evidence
  • Supporting diverse learners, including those with language, literacy, numeracy and digital skill needs
  • Building positive, respectful relationships with learners to understand their individual goals
  • Contributing to safe, inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments
  • Connecting learners with internal or external support services where needed
  • Collaborating with Program Specialists and team members on program delivery and continuous improvement
  • Participating in validation, moderation and professional development activities

Role Details

  • Location: Wollongong office (50–56 Auburn Street), with travel across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands Employment

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need to have worked in an RTO before. What matters is that you hold the right credentials, you know your industry deeply, and you know how to work with people — especially people who are still finding their feet.

What you’ll bring

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or equivalent, in line with ASQA requirements
  • Demonstrated vocational competency and industry experience in your training area
  • Experience delivering accredited training and conducting competency-based assessment with adult learners
  • Ability to support diverse learners and create safe, inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments
  • Eligibility to work in Australia and ability to obtain a Working with Children Check and National Police Check

Company Overview

WEA Co is a not-for-profit helping people of all ages
access learning, build skills, and connect. In 1913, education was out of reach for many working adults in the Illawarra. WEA Co began to change that, offering workers’ education classes that built knowledge, skills, and a sense of possibility. It was the start of our mission to make learning accessible to everyone, no matter their circumstances. As our community changed, so did the needs of adult learners. Many people sought skills to adapt to new industries, grow in their careers, or connect socially. The Community College evolved to meet those needs, providing affordable, inclusive courses in workplace skills, digital literacy, and creative learning. For decades, it has been a place where adults can gain confidence, independence, and a stronger connection to their community. Some young people in our region find that mainstream schooling does not work for them, often because of life circumstances beyond their control. Novo Education was created to give these students in Years 9–12 a safe, understanding place to re-engage with learning. Small classes, one-on-one mentoring, and a trauma-informed approach help them rebuild confidence, set goals, and take steps toward a future they can see for themselves.
