Waminda is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Intake Officer to join our Yanaga Dhuga – Yili Njindiwan Team within the Case Management Program. The Intake Officer provides the first point of contact for women and their Aboriginal families engaging with Waminda. The role ensures clients receive holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed support at their initial presentation or referral. This includes providing crisis support, completing intake assessments, delivering practical assistance, and facilitating information, advocacy and referrals to both internal programs and external services.
Working within Waminda’s values and Model of Care, this role provides client-centred and strengths-based support that promotes safety, dignity, empowerment and self-determination. The Intake Officer works collaboratively with clients, families, staff and partner agencies to ensure women and families are connected to the right supports and can access holistic pathways that strengthen wellbeing, stability and resilience.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will:

Intake, Assessment & Client Support: provide culturally safe, trauma-informed and strengths-based intake support to women and their Aboriginal families, completing initial assessments and identifying immediate support needs.

Crisis Support, Advocacy & Referrals: respond to presenting concerns, provide practical assistance, advocacy and information, and connect clients to appropriate internal and external services.

Care Coordination & Early Intervention: support women and families through the intake process, ensuring timely access to wraparound services that promote safety, wellbeing and stability.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: build strong relationships with community organisations, service providers and internal teams to strengthen referral pathways and support coordinated care.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement: maintain accurate records, meet reporting requirements, and contribute to service improvement, training and reflective practice activities.
What We’re Looking For
- Identify as a Female Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (genuine occupational requirement).
- Certificate IV in Community Services or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience sufficient to perform the duties of the role.
- Current NSW or ACT Driver Licence.
- Current Working with Children Check and National Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Demonstrated experience in client intake, assessment, referral or support within community, family support or related services.
- Strong understanding of child protection responsibilities, including mandatory reporting obligations.
- Experience working within culturally safe, trauma-informed and strengths-based practice frameworks.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, families and stakeholders.
- Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and integrated service delivery environments.
- High-level computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new systems.
