The Tasmania Devils Football Club is embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, building a professional AFL/AFLW club from the ground up. As we enter this historic and exciting phase, we are assembling a passionate and committed team to lay the foundation for a club that will unite, inspire, and represent all Tasmanians.

Your role

The Media & Communications Manager is responsible for leading the Club’s media strategy and day-to-day media operations, communications and corporate affairs activities. This role plays a critical part in shaping the public profile of a high-performance sporting organisation, driving fan engagement, protecting the Club’s reputation, and maximizing commercial and brand value.

Operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, the Media & Communications Manager works closely with athletes, coaches, executives, commercial partners, government and league stakeholders to deliver timely, compelling, and accurate information and communications aligned with the Club’s Devils Why and Devils Way and competitive ambitions. Key Focus Areas include:

Media Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive media strategy that enhances the club’s profile locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Align media activity with the club’s brand, content calendar and commercial objectives

Communications

  • Develop communications plans for relevant campaigns to ensure all relevant stakeholders are informed and engaged on Club activities and issues as required
  • Develop key communications assets for the organisation as required, including internal communications

Corporate Affairs

  • Oversee corporate communication strategies and public relations efforts
  • Manage relationships with media, government agencies, and other key stakeholders.

Media Relations & Match-Day Operations

  • Act as a key point of contact for journalists, broadcasters, and league media teams
  • Manage match-day media operations, including press conferences, mixed zones, interviews, and accreditation
  • Prepare media briefs, talking points, and messaging for players, coaches, and executives

Reputation Management & Issues Response

  • Monitor media coverage, fan sentiment, and social conversation in real time
  • Support crisis communications and reputation management in collaboration with senior leadership
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance in all public communications

Commercial & Partnership Support

  • Collaborate with commercial and sponsorship teams to integrate partners into media activity in an authentic and compliant way
  • Maximize sponsor value through media exposure, storytelling, and campaign amplification
  • Ensure league, broadcast, and sponsor obligations are met

Analytics, Insights & Reporting

  • Track and report on media performance, fan growth, engagement, and sentiment
  • Use insights to refine media strategy and inform content, scheduling, and investment decisions
  • Benchmark performance against league peers and global best practice

Critical Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Media, or a related field
  • 4–7 years’ experience in media, communications, or corporate affairs, preferably in sport or entertainment
  • Proven experience working with journalists, broadcasters, and external stakeholders including government
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within a professional sporting club, league, or major event environment
  • Confidence engaging with elite athletes, coaching staff, media, government and senior executives
  • Familiarity with media monitoring, analytics, and social listening tools
  • Experience managing issues or crisis communications in high-visibility environments
