About us
Our team at the Sydney Anglican Offices are dedicated to supporting the growth of God’s Kingdom by providing valued services to churches and organisations across the Anglican Diocese of Sydney.
Sydney Anglican Services (SAS) exists to provide the Synod of the Diocese with the corporate capacity to manage the affairs of the Diocese. We mainly do this by providing the Synod, other Diocesan organisations and parishes with a range of professional services.
This role sits within the SAS Finance and Investments team that manages the finances of multiple endowment funds and other central diocesan organisations.
Our services include providing strategic and missionally aligned support to those responsible for both the oversight and day-to-day functions of our 260 parishes.
About the role
The Financial Controller role provides effective financial management and accounting services to support the operational activities of SAS and its clients. The role also includes providing strategic financial insights and reporting so that management decisions can be well-informed. Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare and deliver accurate and timely financial reports on a monthly and annual basis
- Maintaining and overseeing financial records and accounts for a number of funds, as well as preparing draft budgets and cash flows
- Assist the CFO to identify and manage financial risk areas, including ensuring compliance to tax obligations and accounting standards
- Partner with CFO and other stakeholders to provide financial analysis, technical accounting advice and process improvements for the team
- Support the development of team members, providing guidance and review over their work
About You
We are seeking a qualified finance professional with strong technical accounting expertise and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality financial outcomes. You will have:
- Degree in accounting, finance or other relevant field.
- CA or CPA qualified.
- Ideally 8+ years’ experience in an audit, accounting, commercial or not-for-profit organisation, including hands-on fund or entity accounting.
- Demonstrated experience developing team members.
- Knowledge of Australian Taxation requirements for GST and ITEC endorsement (FBT desirable).
- Strong customer service, communication and analytical skills
- A demonstrated Christian commitment and be an active member of an Anglican church.
