Description

QuantX Labs is an emerging world-leading deep-tech product company developing next-generation quantum and precision measurement technologies for Space, Defence and Commercial sectors.

Based at Lot Fourteen in Adelaide, we are a small, high-impact team working on globally relevant products that support sovereign capability and advanced technology development. This is an opportunity to work closely with internationally recognised experts and contribute to products that move from concept through to deployment.

About the role

We are seeking a Firmware Engineer, Gateware to support the design, development and delivery of QuantX Labs products.

In this hands-on role, you will work across the full product lifecycle, developing FPGA gateware solutions and supporting integration, verification, debugging and production readiness. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across physics, software, electronics, mechanical and production to ensure our products meet functional, performance and quality requirements.

This role may be shaped to suit different levels of experience, from developing engineers through to more senior technical contributors.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • design and implement FPGA gateware solutions that meet requirements and hardware constraints;
  • develop, simulate, verify and test gateware modules;
  • perform software and hardware debugging to diagnose and resolve issues;
  • support hardware, firmware and software integration activities;
  • develop and maintain continuous integration and hardware-in-the-loop deployment tools;
  • maintain configuration management, change control and release traceability;
  • apply secure software development practices to protect firmware integrity;
  • contribute to design reviews, technical documentation and product development planning;
  • identify technical risks and support mitigation strategies;
  • collaborate with internal teams, customers and suppliers to clarify technical needs and support delivery.

About you

You may be a strong fit for this role if you have experience in FPGA/gateware engineering and enjoy working in a technical, collaborative and product-focused environment.

You will ideally bring:

  • experience designing and developing FPGA solutions;
  • experience with VHDL and/or Verilog;
  • experience with FPGA toolchains such as Vivado, Vitis or MicroSemi/Microchip Libero SoC Design Suite;
  • experience with simulation tools such as Vivado, Riviera-Pro, Active-HDL or similar;
  • ability to analyse complex systems and derive gateware requirements;
  • experience debugging and validating designs using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, signal generators or similar test equipment;
  • understanding of timing closure, external FPGA interfaces and peripheral integration;
  • experience using version control tools such as Git;
  • strong technical documentation and communication skills;
  • ability to work with autonomy while escalating issues where required.

Knowledge of digital signal processing, sampling theory, control systems, ADC/DACs, PID controllers, FFTs or systems engineering principles will be highly regarded.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field is preferred.
