Role Overview

The Fish Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Fish Market, ensuring high standards of product quality, food safety, and customer service are consistently maintained. This is a hands-on leadership role, supporting team performance while managing stock, ordering, and operational efficiency.

This position is ideal for an experienced supervisor or a strong team member ready to step into a leadership role, with the potential to progress into a salaried Fish Market Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Quality Control

  • Oversee daily operations of the Fish Market, ensuring smooth and efficient service
  • Maintain high standards of seafood handling, presentation, and freshness
  • Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards are met at all times
  • Monitor product quality across both fresh seafood and cooked food offerings

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and support team members in a hands-on capacity
  • Lead by example in customer service, product knowledge, and work ethic
  • Assist in training and development of staff
  • Maintain accountability and performance standards within the team

Stock Control & Ordering

  • Manage stock levels to ensure availability while minimising waste
  • Place and oversee daily/weekly ordering of seafood and related products
  • Conduct regular stocktakes and manage inventory accuracy
  • Work closely with suppliers and internal departments to maintain supply consistency

Customer Experience

  • Deliver and uphold exceptional customer service standards
  • Handle customer queries and resolve issues efficiently
  • Ensure the display and merchandising of products are visually appealing and well-maintained

Skills & Experience (desirable)

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within hospitality or retail
  • Strong background in fresh seafood and/or cooked food service (preferred)
  • Solid understanding of food safety and handling practices
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Experience with stock control and ordering processes
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to motivate a team

Role Requirements

  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and early mornings
  • Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, standing for extended periods, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

This role offers a clear pathway to progress into a Fish Market Manager position for the right candidate, with ongoing support and development provided by the Store Manager.
