Description

Residential Care Officer

Company: Montessori Care

Position Title: Residential Care Officer

Location: Sydney, NSW

Employment Type: Full-time (38 hours per week)

Salary: $90,000 – $95,000 + superannuation

About Montessori Care

Montessori Care provides specialised in-home and residential disability and aged-care support across Sydney. Our services are built on personalised, person-centred care principles and the Montessori approach, helping individuals with complex needs live safely, meaningfully, and as independently as possible.

Due to a sustained increase in complex support cases and ongoing workforce shortages in the residential disability and aged-care sector, we are recruiting an experienced Residential Care Officer to meet current service demand and maintain continuity of care for our clients.

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time Residential Care Officer to support clients—particularly those with disabilities, age-related conditions, or high-complex behavioural support needs—within supported living and residential environments.

This position is essential to maintaining 24/7 staffing coverage, fulfilling client-to-worker ratio requirements, and meeting several new NDIS and ageing-in-place care plans that our current staffing capacity cannot support. Despite multiple recruitment rounds, we have experienced difficulty attracting suitably qualified and experienced local candidates for this specialised role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on personal care support, including hygiene, mobility, grooming, toileting, feeding, and medication assistance.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities such as meal preparation, laundry, and domestic tasks to build independence.
  • Support clients to participate safely in community outings, recreational activities, and social programs.
  • Monitor, record, and report changes in behaviour, health, and wellbeing using internal reporting systems.
  • Work within trauma-informed, therapeutic, and positive behaviour support frameworks.
  • Assist in implementing and reviewing individualised care plans in collaboration with health professionals and family representatives.
  • Respond effectively to incidents, behavioural escalations, or emergency situations in accordance with organisational protocols.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential notes and documentation for compliance with NDIS and quality assurance standards.
  • Work collaboratively with support coordinators, therapists, behavioural specialists, and other carers to deliver integrated care.
  • Participate in a rotating 24/7 roster including overnight, weekend, and public holiday shifts.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate III or higher in Individual Support, Disability, Aged Care, Community Services, or an equivalent field.
  • Minimum 12 months full-time experience in a disability, aged-care, or residential care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver person-centred care for clients with complex needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously within a structured care environment.
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, National Police Check, and Working With Children Check.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications (preferred).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a residential, group-home, or supported independent living (SIL) setting.
  • Familiarity with Montessori principles or willingness to undertake relevant training.
  • Understanding of behavioural support plans and trauma-informed practices.

About This Position

Montessori Care has received several new high-needs client referrals requiring immediate residential care staffing. Our internal workforce is currently operating at full capacity, and recent recruitment efforts have not yielded candidates with adequate experience in trauma-informed practice, behavioural support, and complex-care environments.

This role is essential to meeting regulatory ratios, safeguarding requirements, and continuity-of-care obligations for vulnerable clients.

Role Type

On-site • Permanent • Full-time • Associate

Pay Rate

90000 AUD – 95000 AUD (Annum)
