Description

The Product Owner is responsible for owning an end-to-end product stream and is accountable for

maximising the value it delivers by setting clear direction, priorities, and outcomes. This role develops and maintains the product roadmap, translates strategic and stakeholder needs into a well-managed and prioritised backlog, and oversees product execution to ensure timely and effective delivery.

Roles and responsibilities

Product Vision & Roadmap

  • Define, own and maintain the product vision and roadmap for Metro’s digital products and platforms, including automation initiatives, API suites, integrations and platform enhancements
  • Drive transformation across the end-to-end asset lending lifecycle, including straight-through processing, workflow automation, RPA, and platform integrations
  • Align product strategy and roadmap with business objectives, enterprise architecture standards, and regulatory requirements

Product Development and Governance

  • Own and manage the product backlog to maximise business value, customer experience, automation benefits, and risk mitigation while balancing technical feasibility
  • Lead discovery and solution design phases in partnership with Technology, UX, Architecture and other business teams
  • Support preparation of key artefacts such as BRDs, FRDs, and business cases
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to validate that business requirements, regulatory needs, operational challenges, and automation objectives are appropriately captured in user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Track and report on product KPIs and performance metrics (e.g. automation rates, auto-approval performance, hours saved)

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a key liaison between business stakeholders, Product leadership, and Technology delivery teams
  • Partner with key business and technical stakeholders to identify product improvements, validate solution and resolve issues
  • Act as the voice of the customer to ensure intuitive, efficient, and compliant digital experiences

Delivery Oversight

  • Support prioritisation, release planning, and milestone definition, working closely with delivery teams on project plans
  • Participate in and support agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Monitor delivery progress, remove blockers, and address issues impacting timelines or outcomes
  • Approve features and release readiness to ensure timely delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions

Team Management

  • Lead and develop a team of Business Analysts, ensuring high‑quality requirements, documentation, and analytical practices that support effective product delivery
  • Oversee and prioritise BA workload, allocating capacity across initiatives and acting as the primary escalation point for clarification, analytical challenges, and stakeholder alignment

How to succeed

You’re an analytical thinker with strong problem solving and planning skills. You possess an excellent understanding of the product lifecycle, you can interact with both technical and non-technical teams and you’re comfortable working in a fast paced high performance environment

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • 3+ years in a similar role
  • You have worked with Agile delivery approaches
  • Experience with asset finance / non-bank lending is essential, some lending domain experience is preferred
  • APIs, Confluence and Jira
  • Basic understanding of JSON, XML, SQL
  • Tools like Visio, LucidChart for process mapping
  • Must have Australian working rights (citizen or PR)
