Maroomba Airlines is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Chief Operations Officer to lead safe, reliable and high-performing operations across our growing aviation business. This is a hands-on executive leadership opportunity for an aviation operations leader who wants to play a key role in shaping safe, reliable and commercially strong operations during an important period of business growth.

About the role

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operations Officer will provide executive oversight of flight operations, safety and quality, ground operations, network control and day-to-day operational performance. In this role, you will help lead the airline’s operational functions by:

  • Leading operational planning, execution and performance across the airline.
  • Maintaining strong oversight of safety, quality, regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Ensuring operations are reliable, commercially sound and aligned with business priorities.
  • Driving practical improvements that support efficiency, consistency and service reliability.
  • Leading and developing operational leaders and frontline teams.
  • Working closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to support strategic growth and business performance.
  • Strengthening operational accountability, communication and decision-making across the business.

 

About you

  • You will be an experienced aviation operations leader with strong knowledge of CASA requirements, safety management systems, operational excellence, people leadership and commercial delivery.
  • You will be a visible and practical leader who is comfortable working at both a strategic and operational level, with the ability to support frontline teams while also contributing to executive decision-making.
  • You will be calm under pressure, practical in your approach and confident leading teams in a safety-critical environment. You will understand how to balance compliance, customer service, operational efficiency and business performance.
  • You will also be able to build strong working relationships across operational teams, senior leaders, regulators, clients and external stakeholders.

 

Requirements

  • Significant experience in aviation operations, airline operations or a similar safety-critical operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of CASA requirements, aviation safety obligations and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience leading operational teams, managers or multi-disciplinary aviation functions.
  • Strong knowledge of safety management systems, risk management and performance reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve operational planning, efficiency and service reliability.
  • Strong communication, leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior leaders, regulators, clients and operational teams.

  • Experience working with flight operations, ground handling, network control and safety and quality teams.
  • Commercial experience supporting customer contracts, tenders, service delivery or operational budgets.
  • Experience leading change, process improvement or operational transformation projects.
  • A strong understanding of how operational decisions impact safety, compliance, customer experience and business performance.
