As part of the Leed Group, Birubi Australia is proud to be an authentic, Supply Nation certified Aboriginal owned and operated civil construction company with a genuine passion for making a difference. Based across metropolitan and regional South Australia, we’re not just about getting the job done — we’re about creating real opportunities for Aboriginal people and leaving a lasting, positive impact on the communities we work in.
Birubi is looking for an experienced and hands-on Team Leader to join our Municipal and Grounds Maintenance team, servicing Aboriginal Communities at Lakeview and Davenport. Working within the Port August area, this is a working leadership role where you’ll be on the tools alongside your crew while ensuring high-quality service delivery and safe worksite practices. Starting at 3 days per week, the role has strong potential to grow to full-time as contract demands increase.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and supervise a crew of 2–3 workers across municipal and grounds maintenance activities within Aboriginal Communities at Lakeview and Davenport.
- Carry out hands-on maintenance tasks including mowing, litter collection, and hard waste removal alongside the team.
- Complete daily pre-starts, toolbox meetings, and site inspections in accordance with health, safety, and compliance requirements.
- Identify, report, and manage on-site hazards and incidents promptly and accurately.
- Plan and allocate daily work tasks to team members, ensuring efficient and effective contract delivery.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with Birubi management to meet site expectations and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrate strong reading and writing literacy to accurately complete site documentation, reports, and administrative requirements.
About You:
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role within grounds maintenance, municipal services, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organise, and direct daily work tasks for a small crew in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
- Solid understanding of workplace health and safety obligations, including the ability to conduct pre-starts, toolbox meetings, and hazard/incident reporting.
- Strong reading and writing literacy with the ability to accurately complete site documentation, compliance records, and operational reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise professionally with clients, site managers, and team members.
- Hands-on experience operating grounds maintenance equipment such as ride-on mowers, handheld tools, and waste collection machinery.
- Current and valid driver’s licence, with the ability to travel between community sites at Lakeview and Davenport as required.
The successful candidate will be subject to the satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical with drug and alcohol screening.
