About the role

The Work Health & Safety (WHS) Lead is responsible for driving organisational readiness for accreditation, ensuring all Work Health and Safety practices, systems, and documentation meet required standards. The role leads the coordination, preparation, and continuous improvement activities necessary to achieve and maintain accreditation, supporting a safe, compliant, and proactive safety culture across the organisation.

Key Accountabilities

WHS Accreditation Activities

• Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of all WHS activities required for accreditation

• Ensure systems, policies, procedures, and evidence align with the relevant accreditation frameworks and legislative requirements.

• Coordinate internal audits, gap analyses, and corrective actions across WHS compliance.

• Maintain WHS documentation, evidence registers, and compliance records.

WHS Systems & Governance

• Oversee the ongoing development and improvement of WHS policies, safe work procedures, and risk management processes.

• Ensure WHS requirements are embedded across operational practices and key organisational projects.

• Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and internal standards.

Risk, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Identify WHS risks and lead the development of risk mitigation strategies.

• Partner with leaders to implement safety initiatives and continuous improvement actions.

• Prepare WHS reports, metrics, and insights for executive, board, and audit committees.

• Support WHS incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed and documented.

Training, Capability & Culture

• Support the development and delivery of WHS training, education programs, and induction content.

• Promote a culture of safety leadership, transparency, and accountability.

• Provide expert advice and support to managers, staff, and contractors on safety requirements and best practice.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Work collaboratively with clinical teams, operations, HR, facilities, and contractors to ensure WHS alignment and accreditation readiness.

• Liaise with auditors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies as required.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

• Demonstrated experience in Work Health and Safety leadership, compliance, or audit roles.

• Strong understanding of WHS legislation, risk frameworks, and audit standards.

• Experience conducting audits, investigations, and evidence-gathering.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and reporting skills.

• Excellent communication, relationship, and influencing skills.

• Ability to lead cross-functional work, manage timelines, and deliver outcomes with autonomy.

Desirable:

• Formal WHS qualification (e.g., Certificate IV WHS, Diploma WHS, or related discipline).

• Experience within healthcare, community services, or a regulated environment.

• Exposure to quality frameworks, governance processes, and safety management systems.

Key Performance Indicators (High-Level)

• Successful achievement and maintenance of WHS compliance status.

• Completion of audit actions within agreed timeframes.

• Reduction in WHS risk exposure and improvement in safety metrics.

• Quality, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting to leadership and board.

• Improved organisational WHS capability and engagement.

Attractive Benefits: As a not-for-profit organisation, Gidget Foundation Australia offers attractive salary packaging benefits, enabling eligible employees to increase their take-home pay. This includes up to $15,900 per annum in tax-free salary packaging, plus an additional $2,650 per annum for meals and entertainment, in accordance with ATO guidelines. These benefits are offered in addition to competitive remuneration, superannuation, and flexible working arrangements where applicable.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time position (4 days will be considered), contracted for 6 months. It will be based at our head office in North Sydney, with some opportunity to work flexibly, subject to organisational needs.
