Overview

Popular Australian financial comparison site, Canstar, is looking for a talented Senior Content Writer to join its Editorial team and ideate, produce, update and publish finance content as needed. The role will be based in our office with a hybrid office/work-from-home arrangement.  

For the successful candidate, your work will be published on a trusted website that’s read by millions of people each year. You will write content that helps Australian consumers make more informed decisions about their finances, whether it’s their home loan, credit card, super or insurance. You’ll work closely with our SEO, marketing, research and product data teams to inform and amplify your content.

The successful candidate will become part of a dedicated team of talented journalists and content creators that prides itself on cultivating a work culture that is results-driven and progressive, while also being supportive and fun. 

Content producers, journalists and finance writers are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, write and update finance-related content for articles, email newsletters and web pages that will resonate and engage with Canstar’s readers. This will include content for:
    • Topical and punchy finance and budgeting news
    • Explainer articles on finance topics with an ability to break down complex topics to make them simple
  • After your induction, edit and fact check your own articles and edit other work in the team where needed. 
  • Source and pitch your own content and story ideas based on consumer and industry trends.
  • Follow Canstar’s tone of voice, style and production guides to ensure content is optimised for usability and search engines
  • Upload content to our content management system ensuring it is presented in an engaging and user-friendly way.
  • Leverage AI and automation as required
  • Incorporate use of multimedia and tools to enhance your content
  • Attend key project meetings and present on behalf of the editorial team
  • Monitor the performance of your content and use the learnings to make further optimisations and inform the content you pitch in the future.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+  years’ experience in a content, journalism or editorial role would be preferable.
  • Experience or knowledge of the finance or related industries will be an advantage.
  • An interest in consumer finance, real estate, business or economics journalism
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, SEO best practice 
  • Ability to produce quality content to deadline
  • Experience working with a content management system (ideally Wordpress) 
  • A good eye for data visualisation and engaging imagery
  • Comfortable with numerical or financial concepts
  • An interest in working in a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: High energy, hard working, enthusiastic, proactive, hands-on, and ambitious
