This hands-on role is essential to the smooth running of our busy hospital. The Veterinary Nurse Assistant supports the veterinary team by maintaining a clean, organised, and well-prepared clinical environment, ensuring that both patients and staff have everything they need.
While much of the role involves essential cleaning, sterilisation, and preparation tasks, it also offers opportunities for learning and development. Over time, you will have the chance to assist with patient handling and restraint under the guidance of our experienced nurses and veterinarians.
Key Responsibilities
• Clinic Cleanliness: Vacuum and mop floors throughout the clinic to maintain a safe, hygienic environment.
• Laundry Duties: Bring washing in from the line, fold and neatly put away drapes and blankets.
• Waste Management: Empty bins in consult rooms, surgery, and other areas as required.
• Restocking: Ensure consult rooms and treatment areas are fully stocked with necessary supplies.
• Staff Room Maintenance: Assist with general tidiness in shared spaces.
• Instrument Care: Scrub surgical instruments and prepare them for sterilisation.
• Sterilisation: Operate ultrasonic cleaners and autoclaves to sterilise surgical tools.
• Drape Pack Preparation: Package and label surgical instruments into drape packs.
• Animal Care Support and Husbandry: Clean and maintain hospital cages to ensure patient comfort and hygiene.
Provide general husbandry to patients (such as feeding and walking) under the direction of the veterinary team.
• Patient Handling (Future Development): With experience, assist in holding and restraining pets for veterinarians and nurses during examinations and treatments.
