Description

About us

Benmax has been family-owned and operated since 1986, built on a straightforward philosophy: do the right thing, deliver quality work and treat people well. With more than 200 people across Australia, we have grown into one of the country’s most trusted mechanical services and HVAC businesses, taking on some of the most complex projects in the industry. We are now scaling rapidly to support a major AI-infrastructure rollout spanning multiple domestic and international sites, and we are building the supply chain function that underpins the program.

About the role

This is an opportunity to join Benmax at a pivotal point in our growth and take genuine ownership of a critical function. As a founding member of the supply chain team, you will have direct access to senior leadership, real commercial autonomy, and the opportunity to shape how procurement operates across the business.

As Procurement Manager, you will own the full procurement cycle, from sourcing and qualifying suppliers through to negotiating commercial terms and ensuring material is committed in line with the program plan. You will have the opportunity to make an immediate commercial impact from day one.

As the business scales, a Purchasing Officer will be brought on to support purchase-order execution, freeing you to focus on supplier strategy, commercial negotiation and performance management. We are seeking a candidate with strong commercial judgement, established supplier relationships, and the capability to build a procurement function that grows with the business.

You can expect to:

  • Select, qualify, and onboard suppliers in line with the demand and procurement plan
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, capacity allocation and commercial terms
  • Establish and maintain supply agreements and own the commercial relationships with key suppliers
  • Place and expedite purchase orders in the early phase, and recover any overdue order releases
  • Manage supplier performance against on-time delivery and reliability measures
  • Maintain visibility of supply risk and escalate proactively into planning
  • Embed quality requirements and inspection criteria into supplier contracts from the outset
  • Document processes and build workflows to support clean delegation as the team grows
  • Collaborate closely with planning, logistics, manufacturing, and site delivery teams

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated strategic procurement and sourcing experience, ideally within a project, construction or manufacturing supply chain
  • Strong negotiation skills and sound commercial judgement
  • The ability to operate strategically and hands-on concurrently
  • Experience managing supplier performance and supply risk, including single-source and long-lead items
  • A process-oriented approach, with a track record of documenting and standardising work for delegation
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills across planning, logistics, manufacturing and site teams

This role suits a candidate who has built their career in a commercial, private-sector environment where speed, ownership, and accountability to outcomes are part of everyday practice.

Desirable experience

  • Category management across major spend areas
  • Exposure to an international supplier base and familiarity with Incoterms
  • Experience managing or developing a purchasing specialist
  • Familiarity with ERP and procurement systems
  • Experience scaling a procurement function through a period of rapid growth
