About the role:

The Communications Officer provides practical communications, content, design, digital and event support to the Engagement and Communications Team, ensuring routine content, print, campaign and event materials are prepared accurately, filed correctly and delivered through approved Marketing, Communications and Events workflows.

The role supports the preparation, coordination and delivery of approved communication materials across Wuchopperen’s internal and external channels, including, but not limited to, social media, in-clinic digital display screens, website updates, printed collateral, event materials, photography, basic short form video capture, internal updates, merchandise and campaign production support.

The Communications Officer is supervised by the Manager, Engagement and Communications, and the position has no supervisory responsibilities.

This position works closely with other members of the Corporate Support team and maintains regular

contact with other program staff to ensure effective outcomes for clients.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Under general direction, prepare routine communications content, including social media, website and intranet content, clinic screens, staff notices, event materials and reminders and basic campaign content for review and approval.
  2. Schedule and publish approved digital content across Wuchopperen’s communication channels, including social media and in-clinic digital display screens, and assist with website and intranet updates.
  3. Monitor social media activity and escalate complaints, sensitive issues, cultural matters, media enquiries, clinical questions or reputational risks before responding.
  4. Create approved visual materials (e.g. Flyers, posters, social tiles, event materials) using design software, ensuring compliance with brand guidelines, accessibility, plain language, formatting, and print production requirements. Support print production by preparing print-ready files, checking specifications, supplier requirements, quantities, deadlines and approvals.
  5. Capture approved photography and short-form video for events and organisational activities, ensuring required consent and cultural approvals are obtained and maintain organised image and content libraries with accurate file management and metadata.
  6. Provide communications support for events and campaigns, including preparing collateral, tracking tasks, filing approvals, capturing content and assisting with reporting.
  7. Support the coordination of organisational merchandise and assist with the development of communication and promotional resources for health programs and community events, liaising with program areas and suppliers to ensure brand consistency and approved designs
  8. Gather and record statistical data relevant to measuring performance against agreed indicators and participate in review and evaluation activities.
  9. Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  10. Work within Wuchopperen’s Policies and Procedures including the Staff Code of Conduct and the Work Health and Safety requirements and contribute to continuous improvement processes to ensure compliance with relevant standards and safe, effective service delivery.
  11. Other duties as required, within your skills, experience and capacity.

For applicants to be successful in this role, they should demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting communications, marketing, digital content, graphic design, social media, events, administration in a similar role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures from an historical and contemporary perspective, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, accurate and engaging communication materials for a range of audiences using approved templates, brand guidelines and design software (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud), including basic photography, short-form video and digital content.
  • Extensively developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and work within the core values and behaviours of Wuchopperen.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, website and social media scheduling platforms to support routine communications activities, including proofreading, maintaining accurate records, meeting deadlines, demonstrating attention to detail and following established workflows.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Formal qualifications in graphic design, digital media, social media, communications or a related field are desirable but not essential. Relevant experience will also be highly regarded.

Requirements:

  • Hold a current Blue Card (for suitability to work with children and young people).
  • Proof of qualifications is required to be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • Possess a current driver’s licence.
  • A commitment to adhere to Wuchopperen’s policies and procedures.
