About this role:
The Drainer is responsible for leading and executing the installation of stormwater, sewerage, drainage and common trench (water and gas) systems on civil construction sites. This includes interpreting site plans, directing offsiders, operating machinery where licensed, and ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with industry standards and project specifications. The Drainer plays a critical role in maintaining efficiency, safety, and quality on-site.
What your day will look like:
• Lead drainage installation activities, including laying stormwater, sewerage, drainage and common trench (water and gas) systems.
• Interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Supervise and coordinate Offsiders and labourers to ensure smooth workflow.
• Prepare trenches in line with safety and technical requirements.
• Install pipes, pits, and associated infrastructure with precision and accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Operate machinery and tools in accordance with licenses and training.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
• Conduct pre-starts and risk assessments prior to commencing tasks.
• Liaise with the Site Supervisor and other trades to coordinate site activities.
• Identify and report any hazards or incidents promptly.
About you:
• Proven experience in civil / land development / underground services installations.
• Strong understanding of stormwater, sewerage, drainage and common trench (water and gas) systems installations
• Familiar with theodoline pipe laser and dumpy level operations.
• Competency in reading and interpreting construction drawings.
• Team leadership and delegation skills.
• High level of physical fitness and ability to work in challenging environments.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental protocols.
• Ability to problem-solve and adapt to changing site conditions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Positive, driven, and professional attitude with a focus on outcomes.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screen.
Qualification and skillsets needed:
• White Card/ Construction (Essential)
• Current and Valid Australian Driver’s License (Essential)
• PVC and ATCO tickets (Desirable)
• Excavator and other plant operation tickets (Desirable)
• Confined Spaces and Working at Heights (Desirable)
