Ready to step up into a leadership role at a firm that is genuinely going places, and have a good time while you do it?
At WLM Accounting, we are on the hunt for a Senior Manager to join our growing team and help shape where the firm goes next. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves the technical side of the work, enjoys owning client relationships, and wants the room to grow into something bigger.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
This is a role you can build something in. We are at an exciting point as a firm, and for the right person there is a real path toward equity and a genuine say in how we grow. You will work closely with our directors, while taking ownership in managing an interesting portfolio of family businesses and high net worth groups.
You will be based in our Sydney CBD office with great views over the quay, a fully kitted staff kitchen, and fantastic end of trip facilities, and once you have settled in you will be able to work from home for up to three days per week. We will back your development with support for ongoing learning or qualifications, and we reward strong work through our bonus scheme.
Most of all, you will be joining a team that takes real pride in its work and still manages to enjoy the job. We work hard, we move fast, and we have a lot of fun doing it.
ABOUT US
At WLM we believe in empowering business success together. For more than 30 years we have built a leading boutique practice in the Sydney CBD on the back of one thing: genuine, lasting relationships with our clients. We work with growing businesses across a wide range of industries and with high net worth family groups – the kind of clients who come to us with complex, interesting problems and stay with us for the long haul.
We are a paperless, cloud-based firm and we are proactive about using the latest technology, including AI, to do better work in less time. We are always improving our people, systems and processes, and we back the people who bring new ideas to the table. Our team enjoys an open, friendly culture with regular social and learning activities, and we genuinely care about work-life balance.
Our values are:
- We work together
- We make a difference
- We build strong client relationships
- We have fun

ABOUT THE ROLE
As Senior Manager you will report directly to our Directors and take the lead on managing a portfolio of clients, supported by the wider team. Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Review complex compliance work across income tax, FBT, BAS, GST and SMSF, to a standard you would be comfortable sending straight to a client
- Act as the primary point of contact for your client portfolio, building strong relationships and keeping response times sharp
- Lead the interesting technical work, including tax planning, Division 7A, FBT strategies and structuring across family groups with companies and trusts
- Research complex tax issues and bring clear, practical recommendations to directors and clients
- Scope and delegate work to the team, then review, coach and develop them as they grow
- Manage your own WIP and billings, and provide input into client budgets
- Work alongside the directors on strategic projects and business development as the firm grows
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who fits the WLM values and thrives in a busy, client-facing leadership role. So what does that look like?
You are technically sharp and a confident reviewer, the kind of person who can take ownership in managing a portfolio and run it without someone looking over your shoulder. You are an excellent communicator, comfortable picking up the phone and building genuine relationships with clients. You are well organised, you manage your time and your team well, and you can delegate without dropping the ball. You are also energised by change rather than thrown by it, and you are keen to make the most of the tools we use, from Xero and Office 365 to Karbon, Active Workpapers and AI.
To succeed here, you will be able to hand-on-heart say yes to each of these:
- I own my work and my clients, and I do not need to be managed to get things done
- I take real pride in producing work that is right the first time
- I genuinely enjoy leading and developing a team
- I embrace new technology and better ways of working
You will also bring:
- CA or CPA qualification
- A minimum of 6 years’ experience in Australian public practice
- Solid experience working with family businesses and high net worth groups, ideally with turnovers up to around $20 million and the structures that come with them
Payroll experience is a nice bonus, but it is not essential.
