Description

Start your career doing work that actually matters.

WEA Co — The Community College is offering a paid, 12-month traineeship for someone ready to launch a real career in administration within a purpose-driven, community-focused organisation.

As part of this traineeship, you will complete a Certificate III in Business — fully supported, on the job — giving you a nationally recognised qualification alongside genuine workplace experience. This is a structured pathway, not just a job title.

This isn’t a coffee-run internship. You’ll be working at the heart of a registered training organisation (RTO) that helps people across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands access education, build skills, and change the direction of their lives. From day one, you’ll be contributing to something meaningful — and you’ll have structured support, on-the-job learning, and a genuine team behind you every step of the way.

About the Role

Based at our Wollongong office (50–56 Auburn Street), with some travel across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands, you’ll support the day-to-day administration of The Community College while building the skills, confidence and capability to establish a career in education administration.

What your days will look like

  • Being a welcoming, professional first point of contact for students, learners and community members — by phone, email and in person
  • Supporting student enrolment processes and assisting with enquiries
  • Maintaining accurate student records and supporting data entry across organisational systems
  • Assisting with program setup
  • Learning RTO compliance and administrative processes under guidance
  • Contributing to the smooth running of our Wollongong office and shared spaces
  • Supporting continuous improvement by gathering learner and stakeholder feedback as your confidence grows

You won’t be thrown in the deep end. Every task comes with guidance, and your structured traineeship learning will connect directly to the real work you’re doing.

Why join WEA Co

When you join WEA Co, you become part of a mission that has been opening doors to education since 1913. As a not-for-profit, we exist to help people of all ages across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands access learning, build skills, and connect with their community — and this role is part of making that happen.

You’ll hit the ground running with real responsibility from day one — gaining hands-on experience inside an RTO that is genuinely making a difference in people’s lives. While you’re building your career, you’ll also earn a nationally recognised Certificate III in Business, unlock salary packaging benefits that put more money in your pocket, and access Fitness Passport to support your wellbeing. Most importantly, you’ll be part of a team that genuinely cares — about the community, and about you.

This traineeship is a real launchpad — into administration, education support or community services — with 12 months of structured, paid experience and remuneration under the WEA Illawarra Enterprise Agreement 2019 (Schedule B, Level 1 or 2) to back it up.

Company Overview

WEA Co is a not-for-profit helping people of all ages
access learning, build skills, and connect. In 1913, education was out of reach for many working adults in the Illawarra. WEA Co began to change that, offering workers’ education classes that built knowledge, skills, and a sense of possibility. It was the start of our mission to make learning accessible to everyone, no matter their circumstances. As our community changed, so did the needs of adult learners. Many people sought skills to adapt to new industries, grow in their careers, or connect socially. The Community College evolved to meet those needs, providing affordable, inclusive courses in workplace skills, digital literacy, and creative learning. For decades, it has been a place where adults can gain confidence, independence, and a stronger connection to their community. Some young people in our region find that mainstream schooling does not work for them, often because of life circumstances beyond their control. Novo Education was created to give these students in Years 9–12 a safe, understanding place to re-engage with learning. Small classes, one-on-one mentoring, and a trauma-informed approach help them rebuild confidence, set goals, and take steps toward a future they can see for themselves.
