The Intake Officer provides the first point of contact for women and their Aboriginal families engaging with Waminda’s Nabu Family and Preservation and Restoration Program. The role ensures that clients receive holistic, culturally safe, and trauma-informed support at their initial presentation or referral. This includes responding to families experiencing vulnerability related to child safety, family stress, or risk of separation, with a strong focus on early intervention, prevention, and family-strengthening approaches aligned with the goals of the Nabu program. Providing crisis support, completing intake assessments, delivering practical assistance and facilitating information, advocacy and referrals to both internal programs and external services. The position contributes to Waminda’s objectives by ensuring a streamlined, client-centred approach to accessing services, supporting early intervention and prevention and walking alongside clients to strengthen their wellbeing and stability.

The Intake Officer plays a crucial role in the social care sector by facilitating the initial assessment and intake process for clients seeking support services. Based in Nowra, New South Wales, this part-time contract position is essential for ensuring that individuals receive the appropriate care and resources tailored to their needs. The Intake Officer will work closely with clients, families, and service providers to gather information and coordinate services effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments and intake interviews with clients to determine their needs and eligibility for services.
  • Gather and document relevant information from clients, families, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with internal and external professionals to ensure timely and appropriate service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Provide information and support to clients regarding available services and resources.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of intake processes.
  • Uphold culturally safe, trauma‑informed, and client‑centred practices at all times

You will bring:

  • Experience supporting programs or service delivery activities (community services experience desirable)
  • Understanding of culturally safe and trauma‑informed practice (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow procedures
  • A respectful, client‑centred approach
  • Current driver’s licence (essential)
  • Ability to work under supervision and contribute positively to a team environment
