About the role
As our Duty/Emergency Worker, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring children and young people are safely matched with the right care at the right time. As the first point of contact for placement referrals from the Department of Communities and support requests from foster carers, you’ll assess referrals,
coordinate emergency, respite and foster care placements, and provide timely advice and crisis support.
Working closely with carers, families, the Department of Communities and internal teams, you’ll respond to complex situations with professionalism and sound judgement, while monitoring
placement stability and ensuring children receive the care and support they need. This is a fast-paced and rewarding role that requires strong assessment skills, the ability to make informed decisions under pressure and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for children and families.
About You

- A degree in Social Work or a recognised equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated experience working with children and families experiencing crisis, including child protection and out-of-home care.
- Strong knowledge of child development, family functioning and trauma-informed practice, with the ability to undertake comprehensive assessments and make sound decisions under pressure.
- A well-developed understanding of Aboriginal cultures, values and the issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people and families, with a commitment to culturally safe practice.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
