About the Role
Working in partnership with the Cultural Practice Lead, you will support the cultural identity, safety, wellbeing, and connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in our OOHC and Home Stretch programs. You will provide cultural mentoring, guidance, and advocacy to children, young people, and staff, helping to ensure culturally safe and responsive practice across services.
The role supports the development of cultural plans, facilitates reflective cultural learning opportunities for staff, and works collaboratively with the Community Services leadership team and sector partners to strengthen culturally responsive outcomes for children, young people, and families.
This is an identified position and a genuine occupational requirement exists for the successful applicant to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander in accordance with Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity, with strong connections to community and culture.
- A degree in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development or a related discipline, and/or significant relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal children, young people and families, particularly those experiencing complex challenges including child protection, mental health, crisis, and family functioning issues.
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles and culturally responsive practice within the community services sector.
- Experience providing cultural mentoring, supervision, guidance and support to staff and stakeholders.
- Well-established relationships and networks within Aboriginal communities, with the ability to advocate for culturally strong outcomes.
- Highly developed communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, communities and a range of internal and external stakeholders.
