About the role
The Conservation Program Manager role is integral in the delivery of Trust for Nature’s conservation programs.
Reporting to the Area Manager, you will deliver the Stewardship Program in the Glenelg-Hopkins catchment, this involves working closely with existing landholders, as well as engaging and supporting potential new conservation covenantors. You will be tasked with achieving more and better private land conservation within Glenelg-Hopkins, while being the voice for private land conservation across the region.
Success in this role requires familiarity with conservation and land management principles, including Victoria’s Ecological Vegetation Classes and local flora and fauna. You’ll provide advice to landholders on best-practice conservation and land management approaches. Strong local knowledge and community connection are key, whether gained through living or working in the region.

What’s on offer
This is a full-time, ongoing position offering a base salary of $90,606 p.a., plus 12 % super.
In this role you will travel and work throughout the Glenelg Hopkins region. A base office location will provided in Warrnambool, or we would consider a flexible arrangement to work from home office.
The local office is based in Horsham, which is where the rest of the team is located. You’ll join them there for a monthly in-person team meeting.
Due to the location of the role, you’ll often work independently without regular face-to-face interaction with your immediate team. We’re looking for someone who can adapt to this style of work.
About you
The successful candidate will bring;
- At least 5 years of field-work experience
- Degree in natural resource management, ecology, or other environmental science
- Understanding of land management practices including relevant Victorian legislation
- Knowledge of Ecological Vegetation Communities, flora and fauna, common threats, and recommended management actions
- Local ecological knowledge and community connections gained through living or working in the region
- Demonstrated ability to manage and work through complex issues, and utilize excellent time management skills and flexibility to reprioritize work load
- Experience negotiating with a range of stakeholders including land managers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing
