Tribal Warrior is seeking a Female Mentor in Health & Wellbeing, the Health and Wellbeing Program sees our Mentors work with Aboriginal people in the Inner Sydney City area, to support Mentees’ health and wellbeing through direct mentoring, advocacy, connection to services, and community engagement.
The Health and Wellbeing Mentor (Female) is a permanent part-time position of 30 hours per week, based at our Redfern Head Office.
RESPONIBILITIES
- Supporting Aboriginal people by encouraging help-seeking behaviours and facilitating access to culturally appropriate mainstream services.
- Building resilience of Aboriginal people, their families, carers, and communities through one-on-one mentoring and group activities
- Provide one-on-one mentoring to individuals seeking guidance in health and wellbeing.
- Develop personalised health plans in collaboration with mentees, addressing their specific needs and goals.
- Facilitate workshops and group sessions focused on health education and wellbeing practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of mentees, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
- Collaborate with other health professionals and community organisations to enhance support services.
- Maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions and progress reports.
- Promote a positive and inclusive environment that encourages open communication and trust.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
ESC 1 – Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the impact of past Government policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia
ESC 2 – Knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community groups, cultural needs, local support services and resources
ESC 3 – Proven community involvement and outreach experience
ESC 4 – Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of mentoring and/or case management approaches to service delivery
ESC 5 – High level verbal and written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear and accurate written work
ESC 6 – Well-developed computer skills (Microsoft Office, database use)
ESC 7 – Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, including working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds
ESC 8 – Ability to support Aboriginal people with their emotional, mental, physical and lifestyle needs through a mentoring approach
ESC 9 – Understanding of relevant policies and legislation affecting Aboriginal people, including Out of Home Care (if applicable)
ESC 10 – Demonstrated work experience working with high needs clients in a mentoring, support or community services capacity
ESC 11 – Understanding of and respect for Aboriginal cultural protocols, including women’s business and gender-specific cultural practices
DESIREABLE SELECTION CRITERIA
DSC 1 – Certificate IV in Community Services, Youth Work, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or equivalent qualification
DSC 2 – Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
DSC 3 – Lived experience of mentoring, peer support, or community work
DSC 4 – Experience working within Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations
DSC 5 – Aboriginality is a genuine qualification and is authorised by Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)
DSC 6 – Female gender is a genuine occupational qualification for this position to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery in accordance with Aboriginal cultural protocols and women’s business. This requirement is authorised by Section 31(c) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), which permits discrimination on the ground of sex where it is a genuine occupational qualification for the position.
