Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mentor to join our HOME team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing guidance, support, referrals, and advocacy to Aboriginal parents and their families, with the ultimate goal of achieving restoration and/or preservation..

Tribal Warrior’s H.O.M.E (Healing Our Mob through Empowerment) Family Mentoring Program aims to provide culturally appropriate, whole of community mentoring support to eligible Aboriginal families, who have children that are at risk of removal, or are already within the out-of-home care system.

Responsibilities:

Mentors 5 - 10 families at any given time.
End-to-end Family Mentoring program and case management under the guidance of the Program Manager.
Participates in relevant Tribal Warrior programs that supports the mentees.
Support the mentees with reaching goals set out in relevant plans.
Works with the lead mentor to develop and implement strategies for mentees to reach their goals.
Supports and motivates mentees to commit to goals and achieve outcomes.
Takes ownership of own administration and reporting.
Maintains the safety and well-being of mentees at all times; and
Identifies and reports compliance challenges and risks to lead mentor(s).
Understanding of local community and cultural and social needs.
Proven community involvement and outreach.
Understanding of local support services.
Demonstrated work experience working with high needs clients.
Excellent communication skills; and
Ability to support mentees with their emotional, mental and lifestyle needs.

Selection Criteria:

Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification as authorised under Section 14(D) of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977 NSW.
Cert IV or above in a relevant field
A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain
A valid police check or willingness to obtain
Understanding of DCJ and the Out of Homecare System
Proven experience as a mentor or similar role
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of the industry
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients
Strong organisational and time management skills
Knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community groups, cultural needs, local support services and resources.
