Summary:

An exciting opportunity is available for a legal Accounts Clerk to join our exceptional Finance team in the Business Services Unit at Thynne + Macartney.

This role’s key focus will be accounts receivable and billing, although as an important member of the Finance team, the role will also assist with other accounting functions when required.

This opportunity can also be offered on a part-time basis (4 days per week) to the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile all bank accounts and ensure any adjustments are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Complete all EFT receipting
  • Preparation and lodgement of the firm’s daily banking
  • Management of the client overpayment register
  • Monitor and follow up dormant trust monies
  • Process client credit card payments
  • Attending to all billing requirements within the firm as per accounts manual which includes:
  1. Generating matter balances report for review by relevant authors and performing write offs as instructed.
  2. Generating pre-billing guides and all bills required.
  3. Flag the WIP of the firm to ensure that all WIP is billed as expediently as possible.
  4. Reporting on unbilled WIP, write offs and write ups as required to senior management.
  5. Finalising bills as instructed.
  6. Running end of month reports for each department and dispatching.
  • Management of the client investment monies including opening and closing new accounts, liaising with banks and recording transactions in the firm’s Practice Management System
  • Assistance with debtor reminders and collection.
  • Any other ad hoc duties as reasonably directed by the Financial Controller.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role you will have the below skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Recent experience in accounts clerk / accounts receivable position.
  • Working in a law firm environment is highly regarded.
  • Experience using Open Practice or other practice management system.
  • Previous knowledge in data analysis and reconciliation procedures.
  • Understanding of trust accounting.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to deal with competing deadlines accurately and efficiently.
  • Capacity to be self-managed and be self-motivated.
  • Proven ability to use Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
