The Healthy Communities Foundation Australia (THCFA) 

THCFA is a not-for-profit organisation founded by healthcare professionals to improve health outcomes in rural and remote communities. With over 20 years of experience, we continue to grow and innovate, building programs that reflect the needs and strengths of the people we serve. 

In 2022, we received funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Suicide Prevention Australia to deliver the National Rural and Remote Suicide Prevention Program—a peer-led initiative designed by communities, for communities. This program focuses on priority populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQI+ individuals, farmers, and young people residing in rural and remote locations in NSW, VIC and QLD. 

About the Role 

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Clinician (Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Counsellor or equivalent) to join our National Rural and Remote Suicide Prevention Team at THCFA. 

This is a multifaceted and rewarding role where you will provide mental health support, care coordination, and psychosocial interventions while working collaboratively with clients, GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, and our broader multidisciplinary team. 

This is a unique opportunity to either:

✅ Bring your current mental health expertise to help support rural and remote communities in need 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Deliver brief counselling and psychosocial support using evidence-informed approaches 
  • Coordinate care and support planning, including personal crisis plans 
  • Provide services via phone, video, email, and other preferred channels 
  • Conduct risk assessments, suicide safety planning, and crisis support 
  • Maintain client records and documentation in line with governance and privacy standards 
  • Support community capacity-building via education and training 
  • Engage in self-care and wellbeing planning as part of ongoing professional resilience 

Essential Criteria 

  • Bachelor of Nursing, Social Work, Counselling or equivalent 
  • Demonstrated trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally competent practice 
  • Strong interpersonal, clinical, and documentation skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team 
  • Flexibility to work in a hybrid model (including remote service delivery
  • Current WWCC and Police Check (or willingness to obtain) 
  • NSW Driver’s License (unrestricted) 

Desirable 

  • Post Graduated qualifications in Mental Health  
  • Experience in suicide prevention or community mental health 
  • Training or experience in delivering online mental health services
