The Roles
We have two Senior Mental Health Practitioner roles available within The Centre for Women & Co:
- Senior Mental Health Practitioner – Intake and Pathways Coordination (Springwood Location)
- Senior Mental Health Practitioner – Therapeutic Practice and Review (Cleveland Location)
The purpose of the Senior Mental Health Practitioner role is to provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive counselling and holistic mental health and wellbeing support for women recovering from domestic, family and sexual violence, sexual harassment, child sexual abuse or exploitation, and other forms of gender-based violence.
This role works in partnership with community-based providers to support women’s recovery, strengthen access to appropriate therapeutic and psychosocial supports, and respond to each person’s unique mental health, wellbeing and safety needs across the course of their lives.
Core Service Delivery Responsibilities
- Provide 10 specialist counselling sessions per week for clients accessing the Specialist Mental Health Program.
- Provide appropriate wrap-around support to clients, including warm referrals, goal-focused follow-up, and capacity-building support that strengthens recovery, wellbeing and safety.
- Deliver group-based specialist mental health support where required, aligned with client need, program priorities and organisational practice frameworks.
Intake and Pathways Coordination Role Purpose
The Intake and Pathways Coordination element of the role provides senior practice support to strengthen referral pathways into the specialist mental health program and ensure women are connected with the most appropriate therapeutic response in a timely, considered and trauma-informed way. This role supports the Intake Team and broader frontline team with pathway decisions, assessment of referral suitability, case consultations, prioritisation, supervision, and coordinated allocation of clients to the clinical team.
Therapeutic Practice and Review Role Purpose
The Therapeutic Practice and Review element of the role provides senior clinical practice support to the clinical practice team, with a focus on reflective case consultation, clinical review and planned closure processes for clients receiving specialist counselling support. This role supports practitioners to maintain high-quality, trauma-informed and recovery-focused therapeutic practice, particularly in complex specialist counselling matters.
Salary and Benefits
- SCHADS Level 6.1 | Full-Time (38 Hours Per Week)
- Fixed term contract until 31st December 2028.
- Salary Packaging up to $15,900 (superannuation can be paid in addition to this, subject to any ATO limit if any).

Required Experience and Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in social work, counselling, psychology or human services.
- Registration with a relevant professional body such as Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Mental health social work accreditation or relevant clinical experience working in mental health.
- Three to five years working with victim-survivors of gender-based violence and domestic, family and sexual violence in a mental health clinical capacity.
Potential Start Dates
This role is available to start in September of 2026 to give time to settle in and get referrals started before an official October program start.
