The organisation
Based in Toowoomba with offices in Ipswich, Goondiwindi, Roma, Hervey Bay, and Gympie, Tasc Community Legal Centre provides a broad range of services including legal advice and advocacy to clients across the Greater Southern Queensland region. Key to our ongoing success are advocates who are knowledgeable, patient and tenacious, and a culture that is engaging, supportive and driven to provide the best possible experience and outcomes for clients in a values-based framework.
The position
An opportunity exists for an Advocacy Practice Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Advocacy Director, and as a key member of the Management Team, this role provides hands‑on people leadership, professional supervision and practice oversight across Tasc’s advocacy services.
As second‑in‑charge of the advocacy function, you will support the Advocacy Director in leading the team, providing guidance on practice and decision‑making, and ensuring high‑quality, safe and ethical advocacy services. You will step into delegated leadership responsibilities during periods of leave and provide day‑to‑day leadership support as needed.
A key focus of this role is supporting, supervising and developing advocacy staff working in emotionally demanding and complex practice areas. This includes regular supervision and mentoring, supporting wellbeing and resilience, overseeing workloads, and being available for consultation, guidance and debriefing.
You will maintain a small caseload of complex matters to model best‑practice advocacy; however, the primary focus of the role is leading people, strengthening practice, and supporting a capable and sustainable advocacy workforce.
The person
You are a confident, values‑driven people leader with experience supporting professionals working in complex, client‑facing environments. You bring a sound understanding of advocacy‑based, rights‑focused practice, which may have been developed across a range of community,
disability, human services or related settings.
You are comfortable leading and supporting staff through the emotional demands of their work, providing supervision, guidance and clear decision‑making. Experience working directly or indirectly within advocacy, disability, mental health or other social justice‑focused services will be well
regarded.
You will bring a strong alignment with trauma‑informed, person‑centred and human rights‑based approaches, along with the ability to translate these principles into day‑to‑day people leadership and safe service delivery.
You will be based in Ipswich or Toowoomba, with regular travel to between the two, and to other offices for training, supervision, and service coverage as required. Some regional overnight travel
is necessary in this role. We may also consider candidates based in the Toowoomba region.
This is a full-time position.
Salary is offered at L7+ of the SCHADS Award, depending on qualifications and experience.
We offer above-Award conditions including additional paid leave over Christmas, and salary packaging to increase your take-home pay. We pay for your professional membership and continuing development and provide other wellbeing initiatives to support you at work.
