Position Summary
Tangentyere
Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public
Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise
activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town
Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.
Tangentyere Council deliver a range of Youth, Families &
Community Safety (YFCS) services across Town Camps and Alice Springs,
supporting children, young people, families, and communities through the
delivery of daytime and after-hours services focussed on recreation, diversion,
out of home care, community safety and family support programs.
The Tangentyere Safe House (Ndarndarinjika Safe Houses) provides
short term accommodation for Aboriginal children between the ages of 0-12
years old, including respite care. Working from a child centred,
therapeutic approach, the program aims to ensure
that children and young people are supported therapeutically through
the safe provision of a physically, emotionally, and
culturally appropriate
family environment. The service recognises continued
connection to family and culture as integral to a child’s identity and has
cultural safety as a fundamental principle of its service
provision.
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Safe House Case Worker is
responsible for the oversight of casework for children in the Safe Houses by
developing tailored support plans that align with each child’s aspirations, safety
needs and relevant Department of Children and Families case planning. The
successful candidate will be a highly motivated professional with a deep
understanding of Therapeutic Care and the Out of Home Care system, providing
direct support to children and staff to manage each individual child’s needs
within a trauma-informed framework.
The Safe House Case Worker will represent the child’s
interests in care team meetings and facilitate referrals to specialised
long-term services. This role requires excellent verbal and written
communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 to manage reporting and
document progresses.
Beyond direct client care, the Case Worker will develop
strategic relationships with stakeholders to strengthen the community support
network and work within the Youth, Families & Community Safety team to
uphold organisational standards and deliver high-quality, safety-focused
services for all children in our care.
As part of your role, you will be
working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable.
It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in
line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to
abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to
termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or
there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
Responsibilities
- ·Lead the assessment, development, and
implementation of tailored therapeutic support plans for children (0–12 years) living
in the Safe House that align with their safety needs, cultural identity, and
individual aspirations.
- ·Provide direct support and behaviour management
guidance grounded in Therapeutic Care and Out of Home Care (OOHC) standards to
ensure a safe, nurturing family environment.
- ·Uphold the best interests of the child in all
engagements with the Department of Children & Families and with other
stakeholders ensuring alignment with the child’s needs and aspirations.
- ·Maintain high-quality reporting and
documentation using Microsoft 365 or other programs and systems, ensuring all
records are accurate, timely, and meet legislative requirements.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
- ·Certificate IV in Community Services (or
equivalent experience) with a proven ability to mentor and support employees in
a community-based care setting.
- ·Highly developed communication skills with
experience delivering case management activities, particularly within the Out
of Home Care setting
- ·Demonstrated experience building nurturing and
professional relationships with children that is grounded in trauma-informed
practice and cultural safety.
- ·Experience in working with Aboriginal people
including children.
- ·Highly developed verbal and written
communication skills with demonstrated experience delivering case management
support.
- ·Flexible and reliable availability to work
shifts outside regular hours, including overnight and weekends, and participate
in an on-call roster.
- ·Current NT Driver Licence, Ochre Card, First Aid
Certificate (or willingness to obtain), and a satisfactory Police Check.
Desired
- ·Knowledge of or certified in Therapeutic Crisis
Intervention frameworks.
- ·Working knowledge of Aboriginal Language/s.
- ·An understanding of the social justice issues
facing Aboriginal People and the role of the Tangentyere Council programs in
addressing these issues.
