Position Summary

Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

Tangentyere Council deliver a range of Youth, Families & Community Safety (YFCS) services across Town Camps and Alice Springs, supporting children, young people, families, and communities through the delivery of daytime and after-hours services focussed on recreation, diversion, out of home care, community safety and family support programs.

The Tangentyere Safe House (Ndarndarinjika Safe Houses) provides short term accommodation for Aboriginal children between the ages of 0-12 years old, including respite care. Working from a child centred, therapeutic approach, the program aims to ensure that children and young people are supported therapeutically through the safe provision of a physically, emotionally, and culturally appropriate family environment. The service recognises continued connection to family and culture as integral to a child’s identity and has cultural safety as a fundamental principle of its service provision.

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Safe House Case Worker is responsible for the oversight of casework for children in the Safe Houses by developing tailored support plans that align with each child’s aspirations, safety needs and relevant Department of Children and Families case planning. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated professional with a deep understanding of Therapeutic Care and the Out of Home Care system, providing direct support to children and staff to manage each individual child’s needs within a trauma-informed framework.

The Safe House Case Worker will represent the child’s interests in care team meetings and facilitate referrals to specialised long-term services. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 to manage reporting and document progresses.

Beyond direct client care, the Case Worker will develop strategic relationships with stakeholders to strengthen the community support network and work within the Youth, Families & Community Safety team to uphold organisational standards and deliver high-quality, safety-focused services for all children in our care.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
