Position Summary
Tangentyere Council
Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent
Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the
benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice
Springs, and Central Australia.
CAYLUS is a petrol sniffing prevention program. CAYLUS
services remote communities across Central Australia to reduce the supply,
demand and harm caused by volatile substance use.
CAYLUS also supports various community projects that support
the health, safety and wellbeing of young people.
This is an Aboriginal Identified role, and only Aboriginal
people will be considered. This position will work on a casual basis in remote
communities across Central Australia.
As part of your role, you will be
working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable.
It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in
line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to
abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to
termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or
there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
Responsibilities
- ·Work alongside other CAYLUS staff to support the
delivery of youth programs and activities including bush trips, youth diversion
programs, arts and crafts, sports, music, dance, and media programs and other
community identified programs.
- ·Support the cultural induction of CAYLUS staff.
- ·Talk to young people and their families about
sniffing and how to access rehab programs, with guidance from senior staff.
- ·Help look after CAYLUS assets – cars and
equipment, and other valuable assets.
- ·Engage young people and their families, as well
as Elders and other community member to understand what kind of activities are
needed in each community.
- ·Work alongside other stakeholders including
police, NTG, clinic, school and other visiting service providers under
direction.
- ·Work in compliance with relevant policies and
procedures.
- ·Provide verbal updates and stay in contact with
other CAYLUS staff.
- ·Assist with achieving quality management
objectives across the organisation.
- ·Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives
across the organisation.
- ·Assist with achieving compliance objectives
across the organisation.
- ·Other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
- ·Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
- ·Ability to follow procedures and work under
supervision.
- ·Interest and passion for working with young
people and running youth programs and activities.
- ·Willingness to support young people to access
other services including rehab, health and mental health services, youth
programs, school, youth justice, and other educational opportunities with
guidance.
- Current NT Drivers Licence, NT
Working with Children (Ochre) Card, and satisfactory Police Check.
- Preferred
- ·Indigenous language skills and ability to
translate local languages and English.
- ·Ability to travel to other communities from time
to time.
- ·Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and
willingness to attain.
