We are focused on the development of basketball as a community sport, alongside providing a pathway for youth player development, multi-tiered competitions, and coaching through to an elite level. Our goal is to capture the interest of all basketball fans by building a sense of community and creating opportunities to participate in the sport in many ways.

About the role

We are looking for a Team Physiotherapist to join the performance health team supporting the Sydney Kings. Working closely with the Head of Medical, Strength and Conditioning staff, team doctor and coaching staff, you will deliver day-to-day physiotherapy care across screening, injury risk mitigation, the daily training environment, rehabilitation and game day. It is a hands-on role within a tight, integrated team where your work directly supports the availability and performance of professional athletes.

It is an exciting time to join. In early 2027 the program will move to a purpose-built Performance Centre in Auburn, giving the team a modern, fit-for-purpose home for medical, rehabilitation and high-performance work.

Key responsibilities

Screening and Risk Mitigation

•Conduct musculoskeletal screenings within 72 hours of player arrival.

•Coordinate with S&C to develop individual prep and gym programming based on screenings.

•Design injury mitigation programs informed by Kings and basketball epidemiology data.

 

Daily training environment

•Attend all training, games, and team travel.

•Triage and prepare athletes for sessions.

•Attend and assist team gym and recovery sessions where the daily training environment schedule allows.

•Communicate health updates and availability  to coaching and medical staff daily.

•Manage medical stock and equipment.

 

Integrated performance health team

•Communicate recommended gym modifications to the S+C coach.

•Liaise with team doctors when medical input is required.

•Participate in weekly performance health meetings and PD sessions

•Provide daily updates to the Head of Medical and coaching staff on athlete availability

•Coordinating the broader medical team including massage therapist and students

 

Rehabilitation

•Develop rehabilitation plans for time-loss injuries (>1 week) with integrated staff input.

•Set clear milestones and exit criteria for return-to-play.

•Honest communication with athlete, coaching staff and Head of Medical and Performance when a player is ready to progress, or should be regressed.

Game day

•Attend all game day shoot arounds and games

•Physical preparation of athletes.

•Attend to any in-game injuries.

•Advise coaching staff and Head of Medical if athletes are unable to return to play

•Check in with all players post-game for any new injuries or niggles.

•Facilitate drug testing and chaperone players as requested at away games.

Documentation

•Maintain accurate, timely medical notes and correspondence.

•Obtain and store electronic copies of reports and communication from stakeholders.

•Provide written handovers to external clubs/national teams with athlete consent.

•Assist the team doctor in completing NBL waivers and injury forms

 

About you

•Physiotherapy degree with AHPRA registration and $20M indemnity insurance.

•Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist (or working towards titling).

•Experience in elite, professional or high-performance sport is highly regarded; we will also consider strong clinicians ready to step into a high-performance setting.

•Current first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).

•Current drivers licence and ability to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC)
