Description

An opportunity is available for an experienced and qualified Senior Mechanical Production Engineer to join our team based at our facility in Bassendean in a permanent full time position.

Support Vehicles Australia are leaders in the design and manufacturing of bespoke heavy equipment, primarily supplying the mining industry. About the Role

We are looking for a detail-driven and technically skilled Lead Manufacturing Engineer with a mechanical engineering background to support the creation of accurate, high-quality production packages and provide ongoing manufacturing support.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is critical in bridging engineering and production, ensuring all drawings, and technical documentation are complete, accurate, and production-ready. You will play a key role in enabling efficient, safe, and repeatable manufacturing processes while also providing day-to-day leadership and technical guidance to the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Production Package Development

  • Create and maintain comprehensive production packages, including:
  1. Technical drawings and specifications
  2. Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  3. Work instructions
  4. Assembly instructions
  • Translate engineering designs into clear, manufacturable documentation
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with quality, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with the design team to resolve ambiguities and manufacturability issues

Manufacturing Support

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to production teams
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions
  • Assist with the introduction of new products into production (NPI)
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, documentation, and workflows
  • Support change management processes.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, quality, and cost
  • Standardize work instructions and ensure consistent application
  • Support audits by ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and relevant industry standards.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in a manufacturing engineering or production support role
  • Strong experience creating production documentation and work instructions
  • Ability to create engineering drawings from CAD models
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and document control processes
  • Strong attention to detail and document accuracy
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in vehicle body building (VSB6), earthmoving and mining equipment, heavy fabrication, hydraulics and auto-electrics.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Understanding of quality standards such as ISO 9001
  • Experience supporting shop floor operations in a fast-paced environment

Salary range is $135,000 – $160,000 based on previous leadership and technical qualifications and skills.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday, minimum of 38 hours per week, average 42-45 hours per week.
