Description

📰 If you’re a media geek who loves to dive deep, read on! We’re looking for our newest Junior Media Analyst to help transform media coverage into meaningful insights.

Streem is ANZ’s leading media intelligence platform, providing live monitoring of print, digital, TV, radio, podcasts, and social media to Australia and New Zealand’s most influential organisations. Our Insights team turns that firehose of coverage into the bespoke reports that communications leaders rely on to shape strategy, brief their boards, and measure what’s working.

We’re looking for a Junior Media Analyst to join that team. This is a genuine entry point into the unique industry of media analytics – you’ll be doing impactful work from day one, supported by analysts who want to see you grow.

This role suits you if:

  • 🗞️ You follow Australian news closely. You know which mastheads lead on which beats, and you can tell a significant story from a slow news day.
  • 🔍You’ve done some form of media research or analysis, at uni, in a placement, or on your own. You’re familiar with sentiment coding, boolean queries, content audits, or you’re keen to learn it in a professional scope.
  • 📈Data doesn’t scare you. You’re comfortable in a spreadsheet, you can read a chart independently, and you like drawing conclusions from numbers rather than just describing them.
  • ✍️You write clearly and concisely, the kind of writing that a C-suite exec can scan in 30 seconds to digest and use key insights.
  • ⚡You thrive when there’s a deadline. You manage your own time, ask the right questions early, and don’t let things quietly slip.

What you’ll do:

Every day, Streem’s clients – communications teams at government departments, ASX-listed companies, and major institutions – rely on our Insights reports to understand how they’re being covered in the media and what it means for their strategy. Your job is to help build those reports.

  • Reading and rating media coverage for sentiment. You’ll work through articles, broadcasts, and social posts, applying consistent judgement about whether coverage is positive, negative, or neutral for a given client. It sounds simple; done well and at scale, it’s a real skill.
  • Writing and refining boolean search queries. You’ll help set up the data searches that pull the right coverage for each client brief. Think: constructing logic strings that find exactly what you need and filter out the noise.
  • Building and updating charts. Using our data visualisation tools, you’ll turn raw coverage data into clean, accurate charts that go directly into client reports.
  • Supporting analysts on key findings and summaries. As you build confidence, you’ll work alongside senior analysts to identify what the data is actually saying and help draft the insights and executive summaries that clients read first.
  • Maintaining data accuracy and report templates. You’ll help set up and QA report templates for new clients, and keep existing ones accurate and current.
  • Contributing to team retrospectives. We review our reports regularly to improve quality. You’ll be part of those conversations from day one.

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree in Media, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Up to 2 years of relevant experience, including internships, placements, student journalism, uni research projects.
  • A genuine interest in the Australian media landscape – you follow the news because you want to, not because you have to.
  • Comfort working with data. Experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or pivot tables is a plus.
  • Clear, concise writing. Your audience are executives; every word needs to earn its place.
  • Some exposure to boolean search logic, even from uni research or database work.
  • The ability to juggle deadlines without dropping detail.

A note from us: We’re building a team with varied strengths and backgrounds, so please don’t be discouraged from applying if you don’t meet all the above requirements. Whether you’re early in your journey or bring deeper experience, we’d love to hear about what you can bring to the Streem team.

Perks of the job:

  • 💻 Hybrid work setup
  • 🐶 Modern, dog-friendly office a few minutes from Central station
  • 🍔 Catered lunches and a fully-stocked snack bar
  • 🏝️ Extra leave days (paid birthday leave, wellbeing days, volunteering leave + more)
  • 📚 $3,000 annual upskilling allowance.
  • 💲 $2,000 referral scheme, corporate discounts, and novated leasing options.

If you live for the news cycle, thrive in the quiet hours, and want to join a team of media geeks, we look forward to hearing from you!
