Job Title: Speech Therapist Department: Allied Health Location: Sunshine Coast / Hybrid Work Model Job Type: Full-Time

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate communication, speech, language, and swallowing difficulties in NDIS participants.
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based therapy plans to support participants in improving their communication skills, social interaction, and overall quality of life.
  • Implement therapy interventions, including speech exercises, language development strategies, and assistive communication devices, tailored to participants’ needs.
  • Work collaboratively with participants, their families, carers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to therapy.
  • Educate families, caregivers, and support workers on effective communication strategies and techniques to enhance participants’ daily interactions.
  • Monitor and assess progress regularly, adjusting intervention plans as needed to align with participants’ evolving goals and abilities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, therapy sessions, progress reports, and outcomes in accordance with NDIS guidelines and professional standards.
  • Advocate for participants’ needs by ensuring access to appropriate supports and services.

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).
  • Professional indemnity insurance.
  • Experience working with individuals with speech, language, and communication disorders.
  • Knowledge of the NDIS framework and experience developing therapy plans for NDIS participants.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to travel to participants’ homes or community settings as required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with NDIS participants.
  • Additional training or certification in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
  • Knowledge of paediatric and adult speech therapy interventions.
  • Familiarity with cultural competency and the ability to work sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds.
