🌟 Senior Exploration Geologist – Lead our underground drill-out at Sunday Creek
Tuesday – Tuesday | 8:6 Roster | Kilmore & Sunday Creek, VIC
2 Year Fixed-term | Exploration Team | Start August 2026
We’re doubling our drill program from 12 to 24 rigs – and we need an experienced underground geologist to lead the drill-out on an 8:6 swing.
Why SXGC?
Because your work here matters.
SXGC is a growing company moving from exploration into development of one of Australia’s most exciting gold and antimony discoveries. Sunday Creek’s grade hit rate is one of the best globally for a project at this stage, and we’re now scaling up underground exploration – 12 rigs today, 24 soon. For a senior geologist who wants to be in the middle of that, this is a career-making window.
About the Role
Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Senior Exploration Geologist leads the underground drill-out program at Sunday Creek. You’ll plan and coordinate underground diamond drill programs, manage multiple rigs day-to-day, and drive the geological interpretation that shapes where we drill next. The role is one of two 8:6 swing positions rotating to provide continuous coverage, so shift handovers, documentation and real-time data quality matter as much as the drilling itself.
What You’ll Drive
🔸 Plan, design and coordinate underground diamond drill programs across multiple rigs
🔸 Manage day-to-day operations of multiple underground rigs and drill contractors
🔸 Underground geological mapping, structural interpretation and high-quality core logging
🔸 Real-time geological guidance to drill crews and clean shift handovers
🔸 Contribute to geological modelling and JORC and NI43-101 compliant reporting
🔸 Champion an underground safety culture – hazard ID, risk assessment, compliance
🔸 Mentor junior geologists in underground practices, core logging and safety
🔸 Drive new exploration opportunities through data analysis and target generation
Who You Are
You’re a senior exploration geologist who’s spent enough time underground to know how the rock behaves, and enough time with drill crews to know how to keep a rig moving. You take pride in structural and geotechnical detail, you communicate cleanly across shift handovers, and you keep the drill program moving without cutting corners on safety.
Your Background
✔ Bachelor of Science in Geology (Honours or Masters preferred)
✔ 5+ years’ mineral exploration, with underground exploration or mining geology experience
✔ Proven experience managing multiple diamond drill rigs simultaneously
✔ Strong track record in underground drill program planning, design and execution
✔ Experience in orogenic gold deposits – Victorian geology highly regarded
✔ Proficient in Leapfrog, Micromine and QGIS; familiar with database systems
✔ Diamond core logging, including structural and geotechnical logging
✔ Strong knowledge of underground mining hazards, risk management and safety regulations
✔ Manual Australian Driver’s Licence (mandatory)
