Platform Engineer – Pipeline migration and AI optimization

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Platform Engineer to lead a critical infrastructure initiative: the end-to-end migration of our CI/CD pipelines from Jenkins to GitHub Actions.

This is not a “big bang” cutover. We require an engineer who understands the risks of migrating production systems and champions a stable, incremental approach. You will dismantle complex legacy Jenkins pipelines and rebuild them as modern, modular GitHub Actions workflows, ensuring 0 disruption to our engineering teams.

Furthermore, you will bring an AI toolkit to the DevOps domain. You will have great knowledge and experience in implementing and optimising CI/CD pipelines across Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitHub Actions. You will be adept at working with complex monorepos and highly focused on leveraging AI to significantly improve the productivity of both our engineering and ops teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Iterative Pipeline Migration: Lead the transition from Jenkins and Bitbucket to GitHub and GitHub Actions using a phased, incremental approach. Run pipelines in parallel where necessary to ensure stability before decommissioning legacy systems.
• Pipeline Engineering & Optimisation: Architect and write reusable, secure, and highly efficient GitHub Actions workflows, custom actions, and matrix builds, with specific strategies for handling large-scale monorepos.
• AI-Assisted DevOps & Productivity: Utilise AI tools and Large Language Models (LLMs) to analyse complex Jenkinsfiles, generate equivalent YAML workflows, and automate repetitive tasks to boost overall team productivity.
• Intelligent CI/CD Integration: Integrate AI-driven capabilities into the new pipelines, such as automated pull request summaries, intelligent test selection, and automated root-cause analysis for build failures.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with software engineering squads to onboard them onto the new GitHub Actions platform, providing training and ensuring 100% confidence in the new deployment paths.
• Risk Management: Maintain strict adherence to security and compliance standards throughout the migration, ensuring secrets management and access controls are perfectly translated to the new environment.

Skills & Experience

• CI/CD Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience as a Platform Engineer implementing and optimising pipelines using Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
• Migration Strategy: Proven track record of executing complex platform migrations without relying on high-risk, “big bang” cutovers. You must champion stable, incremental delivery.
• Monorepo Architecture: Strong practical experience managing CI/CD workflows and optimising build times for complex monorepo environments.
• AI Tooling & Integration: Practical experience leveraging AI to accelerate engineering workflows and improve ops productivity, including integrating AI/LLM APIs directly into automation scripts.
• Scripting & Automation: High-level proficiency in Python and Bash for automating infrastructure tasks and writing custom migration scripts.
• Cloud & Containers: Strong understanding of cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) to ensure pipelines build and deploy modern workloads effectively.

Bonus Points For ✨

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Background in developing custom GitHub Actions using JavaScript or Docker.
• Experience implementing DevSecOps practices within GitHub Actions workflows.
