Civil Construction Inspector
Driven Different. Built for delivery. Focused on what matters.
Various locations – Project based role with frequent travel
Full Time – Fixed Term
Are you an experienced civil construction inspector or a former council professional looking for a role that truly makes a difference in regional communities? Join SHEPHERD and work alongside councils delivering critical infrastructure and disaster recovery projects across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
What you’ll actually do (real projects, real impact)
As a Civil Construction Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency in project delivery, as well as:
-
Inspect and assess civil infrastructure works
Conduct inspections on roads and civil assets, assess
damage, document findings, and support funding submissions for recovery
projects.
-
Oversee quality and compliance on site
Monitor project delivery against council standards, specifications and
scopes to ensure works are completed safely and correctly.
-
Keep projects moving
Work closely with contractors, councils and project teams to identify issues early, solve problems quickly, and maintain progress across multiple sites.
-
Apply “the SHEPHERD Way” to delivery
Use structured systems for inspections, reporting, risk management and compliance so projects remain defensible, consistent and outcomes-focused.
-
Build trusted relationships with councils and communities
You become the reliable point of contact on site: someone who communicates clearly, follows through, and represents SHEPHERD professionally.
-
Support infrastructure that communities rely on
Your work directly contributes to restoring and improving roads and essential infrastructure across regional communities.
About You
You will be a strong fit if you:
- Have 2+ years’ experience in civil construction inspection, project supervision, or local government infrastructure delivery
- Understand civil construction methods, technical drawings, and council specifications
- Can work independently while maintaining strong organisation and reporting standards
- Know how to build productive relationships with councils, contractors and communities
- Take a proactive, safety-first approach to site delivery and compliance
- Prefer being out on-site solving problems, not sitting behind a desk all day
How you’ll work here (our Shared Standards)
This role suits people who naturally work above the line:
-
Speak with Purpose – you say the hard things early, give clear advice, and don’t leave surprises for later.
-
Grow Strength Together – you share knowledge, bring council teams along, and build capability (not dependency).
-
Improve What Matters – you cut through noise, keep things practical, and don’t overcomplicate delivery.
-
Integrity with Care – you show up, follow through, and back your team when it gets tough.
-
Build Better Communities – you protect quality and do the right thing by the people who rely on these roads.
