Job Title: Mental Health Clinician – Children’s Counsellor (Part-time)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Clinician – Children’s Counsellor to join our team in Rockingham, Western Australia. This part-time, permanent role is essential in providing high-quality mental health support to children and their families. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing developmentally appropriate, trauma informed counselling and therapeutic support to children and young people. Delivering individual and group interventions within a culturally secure framework, that promotes emotional well-being and resilience.

South Coastal Health & Community Services (SCHCS) is a leading provider of a range of mental health and community support services. For over 30 years, SCHCS has grown to provide services to thousands of women and families who now access individual counselling, therapeutic and support groups.

Our Mental Health Team work across a range of services including triage, assessment, referral and counselling services, advocacy, and psychological support to women and children who have mild to moderate mental health concerns. This includes prevention and intervention with individuals who are at risk or who are victim-survivors of family and domestic violence.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of children’s emotional, behavioural, developmental, and psychosocial need.
  • Conduct risk assessments, as required.
  • Provide individual counselling to clients who are affected by a range of issues as part of counselling service programs.
  • Deliver trauma-informed and child-centred interventions to support emotional regulation, resilience, and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and families where appropriate to support the child’s therapeutic goals.
  • Ensure practice aligns with mandatory reporting obligations, child-safe standards, and ethical frameworks.
  • Provide appropriate therapeutic interventions, using evidence-based models.
  • Provide group support, as required.
  • Provide triage of referrals, as required.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and evaluation of the programs.
  • Collect and collate statistical data as directed by management.
  • Participate in internal meetings, training, and in-house supervision, as required.
  • Ensure adequate record keeping is maintained.
  • Provide appropriate referrals and information to clients in a timely manner.
  • Provide community education as required.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and research as required.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree in psychology, social work, or counselling.
  • Registration with a professional body (e.g., AHPRA, PACFA, ACA, AASW or equivalent).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working in Family & Domestic Violence, demonstrating knowledge the impacts on children.
  • Knowledge and experience in child protection and mandatory reporting.
  • Knowledge and experience in referrals and advocacy for children and families who have experienced family domestic violence.
