Rural Alive and Well is a non-clinical Tasmanian not-for-profit organisation, building mentally healthy and resilient rural communities to reduce the prevalence of suicide in ages 14 years and above.
- RAW supports Tasmanians that live in rural & remote areas and/or that work in primary industries.
- RAW provides practical support to these people, in the form of community connection (Recognising the signs), brief interventions (Asking for help) and individual case management (Working together).
- RAW demonstrates a genuine understanding of the people, and their rural context.
About the Role
RAW is looking for both Outreach and Community Engagement team members. The roles are fixed-term positions aligned with our current funding (to June 30, 2029). There is an option of full time and part time roles. These roles will be based across the north, north-west and northern midlands regions of Tasmania. The roles require staff to work in a mobile environment undertaking a range of mental health awareness and education (community engagement) activities, and working with individuals seeking support (outreach).
Core areas of responsibility include;
Community Engagement Coordinator:
- The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in strengthening relationships between Rural Alive & Well (RAW) and the communities we support. This position is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating engagement activities that promote positive mental health and wellbeing, increase awareness of RAW’s services, and support meaningful connections across rural and remote Tasmania.
- Working closely with the Community Engagement Team Leader and regional outreach teams, the coordinator builds and maintains partnerships with community groups, service providers, businesses, and individuals. The role requires a proactive and culturally responsive approach to outreach and engagement, ensuring services are visible, accessible, and aligned with local needs.
Outreach Workers:
- The Outreach Worker plays a vital role in strengthening relationships between Rural
Alive & Well (RAW) and the communities we support. This position is responsible for facilitating a person-centred approach to participant engagement and the delivery of recovery pathways including safety planning, risk management, and accessing appropriate pre and postvention services. This role works with others in the organisation to connect with community engagement activities ensuring appropriate follow up to support individuals.
- The outreach work provides practical and tangible support for those across the rural
community and/or primary industries.
These positions contribute to RAW’s broader mission by enhancing trust, encouraging participation in individual and organisational support programs, and gathering insights that help shape and improve service delivery and community impacts.
About You
- Have a well-developed understanding of suicide prevention strategies and the ability to empathise with a diverse range of individuals and provide support services with an emphasis on mental health and well-being.
- Enjoy long drives and getting your boots dirty.
- Have a passion for building mentally healthy and resilient rural and remote communities.
- Have knowledge of the impact of agriculture and primary industry sectors.
- Have an understanding of the situational stressors which are experienced by rural, remote and primary industry communities.
- Be efficient and effective in achieving outcomes to best utilise RAW’s funding.
