About the Role
Join RSPCA Queensland as our Payroll Manager, leading the delivery of accurate, compliant and efficient payroll operations across a large and diverse workforce. This is a pivotal leadership role that sits across both People & Culture and Finance, ensuring payroll integrity, governance and reporting while driving continuous improvement across systems and processes.
You’ll act as the organisation’s payroll subject matter expert, overseeing end-to-end payroll operations while partnering with leaders across the business to provide insights, improve processes and support strategic decision making. From award interpretation and compliance through to systems optimisation and payroll transformation projects, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine organisational impact behind the scenes so our teams can continue focusing on delivering care for animals.

You thrive balancing operational delivery with strategic improvement, and you’re confident navigating legislation, systems and stakeholder relationships with accuracy and professionalism.
You’re analytical, solutions-focused and highly organised, with a natural ability to identify opportunities for improvement and simplify complex payroll matters into clear, practical guidance. You enjoy working collaboratively across teams, building trust with stakeholders and creating efficient, compliant and sustainable payroll practices.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Lead the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll processing.
- Interpret and apply modern awards, enterprise agreements and payroll legislation.
- Oversee payroll compliance, statutory reporting and audit readiness.
- Manage payroll reporting, reconciliations and workforce data analysis to support operational and financial decision making.
- Act as the payroll SME across payroll, rostering and time & attendance systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, system optimisation and payroll transformation projects.
- Partner closely with Finance and People & Culture to ensure alignment, transparency and effective communication.
- Provide expert payroll advice and support to leaders and stakeholders across the organisation.
- Lead, coach and support payroll team members while fostering a collaborative and accountable team culture.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Significant experience managing end-to-end payroll operations within a complex, multi-site environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, Fair Work requirements, NES and award interpretation.
- Experience working across payroll, HRIS and time & attendance systems, including Employment Hero.
- Proven experience leading payroll improvement initiatives, audits or transformation projects.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical capability and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear and practical payroll guidance.
