The Role

We are seeking a Technical Editor/Peer Reviewer with a passion for reviewing geological and technical content. This is an instrumental role supporting our global team of technical specialists, with a strong focus on reviewing and refining scientific and geological reports, papers, and documents to ensure they are accurate, clear, consistent with our in-house style, and client-ready. This role is a casual role, based in Perth. Hybrid remote or fully remote working conditions will be considered for the right applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review content for clarity, consistency, structure, grammar, style and technical accuracy in line with RSC’s standards and Style Guide.
  • Work closely with geologists and other technical professionals to improve the readability and quality of specialist reports without altering technical intent.
  • Provide constructive editorial feedback and guidance to authors on writing style, structure and presentation.
  • Support document quality control in a fast-paced consulting environment.

About You

You are a collaborative and detail-driven editor who derives satisfaction from attention to detail and honing a finished document. You bring strong scientific literacy, sound editorial discernment, and ideally, hands-on experience to editing geological content. Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • excellent UK English writing, editing, proofreading and peer review skills;
  • strong ability to edit complex scientific and technical material for clarity, accuracy and consistency;
  • excellent technical knowledge of MS Word, with advanced document formatting expertise;
  • excellent understanding of document structure, formatting conventions, field codes and template development;
  • professional communication with subject matter experts, and confident engagement with stakeholders at all levels;
  • strong conceptual thinking, sound judgement, and a highly analytical approach;
  • excellent organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure;
  • confidentiality, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion; and
  • resilience and drive to overcome obstacles and deliver high-quality outcomes.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in English, Communications, Science, Geology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar technical editing or peer review role.
  • Advanced proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word.

Desirable

  • Experience editing geological reports, or mineral resource documentation including standard operating procedures.
  • Previous experience in the mineral resources consulting sector would be highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with code-compliant reporting requirements (JORC, NI 43-101, S-K 1300, Valmin).
  • Experience working within dynamic and high-energy environments.
  • A background in geology, earth sciences, mining or another scientific discipline.
