RAATISC are looking for a committed, skilled and passionate individual to join the friendly RAATSIC team as a Cultural Practice Lead (Identified) – Level 5 – Full Time – Cairns Based.

Position Purpose:

The Cultural Practice Lead is an identified role for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidate. It is a key role within RAATSIC’s workforce and organisational development functions. The Cultural Lead  will manage cultural safety initiatives, support service enhancements this includes overseeing and implementing organisations cultural competency. The Cultural Lead will promote professional development areas for RAATSIC staff to improve knowledge and capabilities in a culturally sensitive approach.

The Cultural Practice Lead works closely with the Practice and Development Manager, program teams, and the HR function to deliver cultural learning initiatives. The Cultural Lead will identify and make recommendations on opportunities to improve processes, quality and service delivery outcomes. Develop and deliver strategies to improve RAATSIC staff understanding and practice of cultural safety including the Cultural Safety induction for new staff.

Requirements:

  • Deep personal knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and community life, including the specific cultural contexts of Cape York and remote communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate culturally safe learning experiences for diverse audiences, including frontline staff, managers, and leadership teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Elders, community members, families, and colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in promoting, monitoring and enhancing cultural safety within Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to use influence to deliver change. Sound understanding of trauma-informed practice and how it intersects with cultural safety in a DFV and child protection service context.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, manage and prioritise tasks to deliver outcomes. Organised and reliable, with the ability to plan and deliver training programs, events, and initiatives within agreed timeframes.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, including continued cultural learning.

About You:

  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality practices and organisational policy procedures.
  • An ability to work in a culturally respectful and competent manner, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island young people, their families and communities, to ensure that cultural connections are fostered and maintained.
  • Have an understanding of / or the ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of RAATSIC program service responses and interventions in working with vulnerable families that may be experiencing trauma and family disconnection.
  • Have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Have an average level of computer skill set and of relevant technology, specifically all aspects of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Have effective time management skills (punctuality, meeting deadlines, prioritising tasks).
