Summary:
The Mine Technician – Geology supports mining operations by assisting geologists with drilling programs, geological sampling, data collection, and ore control activities. The role contributes to the effective execution of day-to-day geological operations through accurate fieldwork, coordination of sampling activities, and timely communication of information. The position requires a strong focus on safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in an operational mining environment. Familiarity with open pit mining processes, mobile equipment, and earthworks is desirable.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Take a proactive approach to identifying, mitigating and reporting hazards associated with departmental tasks, to ensure a safe work environment.
- Work with geologists and drill supervisors to coordinate drilling activities in line with the operational plan
- Coordinate, supervise and train samplers to ensure safe, consistent and accurate data collection
- Assist with the supervision of the drilling contractor for safe and efficient delivery of services · Assist with geological mapping, rock chip, and stockpile sampling activities.
- Operate and maintain equipment (e.g., DGPS, handheld XRF, vehicles) as well as manage consumable stocks to meet day-to-day production requirements
- Manage sample dispatch, chain of custody, and coordination with the mine laboratory (and external laboratories) ensuring all QAQC processes are followed.
- Perform data entry and management in close coordination with database staff · Maintain sample storage, and workspaces in a clean and organised state.
- Provide detailed handover reports to cross-shift staff to ensure ongoing operational targets are met
- Adhere to all safety and environmental policies and report hazards or incidents promptly.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a field-based mining or exploration role (preferred)
- Current Manual Driver’s Licence
- Familiarity with sampling procedures, drilling and earthmoving equipment
- Good understanding of safety processes and risk identification
- Experience using GPS equipment and data collection tools.
- Good computer literacy, including MS Word and Excel
- Exposure to digital data entry platforms desirable.
