What you’ll do

The Manager, Safety and Quality will be responsible for the operational leadership, implementation and continuous improvement of Rail First’s safety and quality management systems.  This role will ensure that Rail First’s safety and quality objectives are effectively embedded into operations, systems and culture, while providing accurate assurance and advice to the Director of Operations, Safety and Quality.

 

The Manager, Safety and Quality will primarily be responsible for:

  • Supporting leaders across the business with understanding and implementing required safety practices and processes
  • Championing a constant focus on safety, positively challenging all levels of the organisation with the aim of building a strong safety culture across the business
  • Build strong relationships both internally and externally, fostering collaboration and partnership, to enhance safety knowledge and practices
  • Ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and other relevant business-related requirements
  • Facilitate risk management control activities and implement plans and practices to enable optimal management of business risks
  • Ensuring safety systems are not just in place but are actively embraced and integrated into all activities at every level in the business
  • Incident reporting and liaison with relevant stakeholders and regulatory bodies as well as supporting incident investigation process
  • Play an active role in contributing to Rail First’s ESG strategy

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience
  • A demonstrated passion for safety
  • Transformational leadership skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in assisting managers to implement safety management systems within legislative frameworks
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment within complex and sensitive operational project environments
  • Substantial experience and success in implementing policies, procedures and quality management systems
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated high level of proficiency in the use of computers and software packages
  • Ability to travel occasionally
