About the Opportunity

The Medical Receptionist 50 D reports to Practice Manager- Newman and is directly accountable to the Director of Clinical Services and is responsible for providing efficient and effective reception and administrative support to all members of the Newman Clinic team in order to facilitate a high level of care for all clients and visitors to the Newman

Clinic.

The position incumbent is primarily responsible for providing professional and confidential administration services to support the effective service delivery and day-to-day functioning of the Newman Clinic. The incumbent will be essential to ensure local community members perceive the service as accessible, friendly and welcoming. The Medical Receptionist is generally the first point of contact with the public and as such, it is essential that they are pleasant, courteous, highly professional and able to interact with a wide and diverse consumer group. The incumbent works competently in a busy environment, and collaboratively with all PAMS staff and visiting services.

SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL:

• The person identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community;

• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, values and beliefs, and an understanding of health issues impacting on Aboriginal people in Western Australia;

• Demonstrated experience working in an administrative and/or reception role within a similar environment;

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a broad range of people from a variety of

backgrounds and experiences;

• Sound oral and written communication skills;

• Strong customer service skills and the ability to work under pressure and manage conflict situations;

• Ability to work at a satisfactory level unsupervised with limited supervision as well as within a team

environment;

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of computerised systems with experience in patient information management and recall system preferred;

• Sound clerical and organisational skills and attention to detail;

• Ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines; and

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

DESIRABLE:

• Previous experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health service environment;

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Administration or similar;

• An understanding of medical terminology, medical and allied health professional organisations and relevant stakeholders;

• Previous experience utilizing an electronic patient information system (e.g. Communicare); and

• Previous experience working with the Medicare system in the primary health care setting.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with remote Aboriginal communities and make a drastic impact to the health and well-being outcomes of these communities.

PAMS operates five sites, supported by a range of clinicians, community health workers and other ancillary workers. Although the successful candidates will have a substantive location (Newman) they must be prepared from time to time to work across any one of these sites should they be required.

About the Organization

The Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service located in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia and provides comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care services to the Martu people of Newman and the four remote Aboriginal communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji.

With an administrative hub based in Newman, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, The Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) provides holistic primary health care and community health programs services to the individuals and families within Newman and the remote communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji.
