About the Role
As Editor, you will contribute to the publication’s editorial direction, content quality and day-to-day production.
In line with Prime Creative Media’s purpose of growing individuals, organisations and industries, Insight takes a constructive and forward-looking approach to industry journalism. You will identify and tell stories that highlight progress, innovation, achievement and positive developments across the ophthalmic sector, while maintaining accuracy, credibility and editorial integrity.
This is a hands-on editorial role. You’ll write and edit content, manage the production process and represent Insight across the industry. You’ll also work closely with the Managing Editor, sales, design, production and other internal teams to ensure the publication is delivered on time and to a consistently high standard.
In this role, you will:
- Source, write and edit accurate, engaging news and feature content across print and digital platforms.
- Manage the production of the print publication, including editorial lists, flat plans, schedules and approval processes.
- Maintain a strong pipeline of relevant stories to support consistent editorial output.
- Identify emerging developments, issues and stories affecting the industry.
- Conduct interviews with clients, industry professionals and subject-matter experts.
- Translate clinical, technical and commercial information into clear and compelling content.
- Ensure the accuracy, quality and consistency of all published editorial material.
- Manage Insight’s website, newsletters, social media channels and other digital assets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry professionals, associations, clients and contributors.
- Represent the publication at local and interstate trade shows, conferences, roundtables and other industry events.
- Contribute to the publication’s continued development, relevance and audience engagement.
- Develop positive and engaging industry stories that showcase innovation, progress, achievement and opportunity.
- Produce engaging client-supported content that showcases businesses, products and services to the publication’s target audience, while maintaining appropriate editorial standards.
About You
You may be an experienced editorial professional or an emerging editor ready to take the next step. What matters most is strong journalistic ability, confidence in building and maintaining relationships, and the potential to take ownership of editorial planning and production.
You will ideally have:
- Alignment with our values of Growth, Accountability, Humility and Generosity.
- At least four years’ experience as a journalist or in a comparable role.
- At least one year’s experience working as an editor or performing comparable editorial responsibilities.
- Experience taking responsibility for editing, production planning or the delivery of a publication.
- A proven ability to source, write and edit a high volume of accurate and engaging content.
- Strong news judgement and the ability to identify stories that matter to a specialist audience.
- Excellent writing, editing, interviewing and proofreading skills.
- The ability to understand complex or technical subject matter and communicate it clearly.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- The confidence to represent a publication and develop connections across an industry.
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail and deadline management.
- The ability to work independently, take accountability for outcomes and collaborate effectively within a team.
- A degree in Journalism, Media, Communications or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
