This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in their workmanship, can independently manage a variety of maintenance jobs and understands the importance of maintaining safe, welcoming and well-presented homes.

Our properties support children, young people and people living with disability. You will therefore need to be respectful, professional and comfortable completing work within active residential environments.

About Praxis Solutions

Praxis Solutions is a Queensland-based, values-driven organisation providing trauma-informed and therapeutic supports to children, young people, families and people living with disability.

We operate a growing portfolio of residential properties across South-East Queensland. Our homes experience the everyday maintenance demands of busy residential environments, and we are looking for a dedicated person who can respond promptly, complete repairs properly and help us proactively maintain our properties.

About the role

You will be responsible for completing general repairs, preventative maintenance, minor improvement works and property inspections across multiple residential homes.

The work will range from everyday household maintenance through to more substantial repairs including plaster patching, painting and replacing internal fixtures and fittings.

You will work autonomously while communicating closely with our property, administration and operational teams. You will also help identify when work needs to be referred to an appropriately licensed trade contractor.

Key responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Repairing and patching holes and damage to plaster walls and ceilings
  • Preparing and painting walls, ceilings, doors and other surfaces
  • Replacing or repairing internal doors, handles, hinges and locks
  • Repairing fences, gates, palings and minor outdoor structures
  • Hanging pictures, mirrors, curtain rods, blinds and household fixtures
  • Completing minor carpentry and general building repairs
  • Repairing cupboards, shelving, cabinetry and household fittings
  • Assembling and installing furniture and household items
  • Completing minor silicone, sealing and waterproofing maintenance where appropriate
  • Undertaking general property upkeep and preventative maintenance
  • Completing property inspections and identifying maintenance requirements
  • Responding to urgent maintenance and make-safe requests where reasonably required
  • Purchasing or collecting materials and supplies for approved work
  • Keeping work areas clean, safe and tidy
  • Taking before-and-after photographs and maintaining accurate records of completed work
  • Providing updates on job progress, materials required and any further work identified
  • Coordinating with external tradespeople where licensed or specialist work is required
  • Following workplace health and safety requirements and Praxis Solutions’ policies and procedures

This role does not require electrical, plumbing or other regulated work unless you hold the appropriate licence. Licensed work will be referred to qualified contractors.

About you

We are looking for someone who is practical, dependable and capable of working across a broad range of residential maintenance tasks.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in property maintenance, building maintenance, residential construction, carpentry, painting, plastering or a similar hands-on role
  • Strong plaster repair, patching and painting skills
  • Broad general handyperson and household maintenance experience
  • Confidence using power tools, hand tools and maintenance equipment
  • The ability to assess a maintenance issue and identify an appropriate solution
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple jobs across different locations
  • Good organisation, time-management and problem-solving skills
  • A high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to communicate respectfully with staff, residents, young people and other stakeholders
  • A professional, calm and non-judgemental approach
  • The physical capacity to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position
  • Basic computer or smartphone skills for receiving jobs, recording updates and submitting photographs

A relevant trade qualification or experience in carpentry, plastering, painting or residential construction would be highly regarded but is not essential where you can demonstrate strong practical skills and experience.

Essential requirements

The successful applicant must hold or be willing to obtain:

  • A current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence
  • A valid Working with Children Check or the ability to obtain one
  • A current National Police Check
  • Evidence of working rights in Australia
  • The ability to travel regularly between properties across Logan, Ipswich and surrounding areas

You must also be willing to participate in Praxis Solutions’ employment screening, induction and child-safe recruitment processes.

This role does not require electrical, plumbing or other regulated work unless you hold the appropriate licence. Licensed work will be referred to qualified contractors.

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant and will reflect the skills, experience and qualifications they bring to the role.

Remuneration arrangements may also vary depending on whether the successful applicant chooses to supply and use their own vehicle, tools and equipment as part of their employment.

Praxis Solutions is happy to provide a work vehicle, tools and equipment where required, and applicants are not expected to supply their own as a condition of employment.
