ROLE PURPOSE
The Digital Communications Lead is responsible for driving the day-to-day execution of Philanthropy Australia’s digital communications with pace, precision and impact.
Reporting to the Director, Communications & Marketing, this role is the engine room of the communications function. It ensures a high volume of content and communications is delivered seamlessly across channels, translating strategy into high-quality outputs that are timely, engaging and on brand.
This role is suited to a digitally savvy, highly organised communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in getting the detail right, and is motivated to continually improve how communications are delivered. The Digital Communications Lead combines strong execution capability with curiosity and initiative, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, test new approaches and lift performance across channels.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Giving News and email
- Production and distribution owner of the fortnightly Giving News e-newsletter, including layout, build, and scheduling
- Build, test and send EDMs (including for events, member updates and organisational announcements), ensuring accuracy, segmentation and optimisation for audience engagement.
- Coordinate inputs from across the geographically dispersed organisation and ensure clear timelines, approvals and delivery
- With the Communications & Marketing team, manage a calendar of communications execution, including for major events such as conferences, summits and roadshows
- Manage the communications inbox, triaging content, managing requests and identifying opportunities for further action
- Collaborate with the Engagement team on maintaining distribution lists, aligning with CRM
- Strengthen performance over time through testing, data insights and continuous
Digital channels
- Maintain and update website content using WordPress, ensuring accuracy, accessibility and alignment with current priorities
- Manage image and multimedia content storage and optimisation
- Proactively identify and address gaps, outdated content and opportunities to improve usability and performance
- Upload and manage event listings, job listing and other key content updates
- Coordinate design and other contractors for key collateral and content
- Support optimisation of digital channels to improve engagement and user experience
- Ensure consistency of content across all digital touchpoints
- Social media and digital content
- Deliver a consistent and engaging social media presence, aligned to content priorities and organisational voice
- Create high-quality, on-brand digital assets using tools such as Canva
- Schedule, publish and monitor content, identifying opportunities to improve reach and engagement
- Work with colleagues to encourage amplification and strengthen organisational presence, particularly on LinkedIn
Coordination, systems and reporting
- Act as a central coordinator for communications workflows, bringing clarity, structure and momentum across a distributed team
- Build strong working relationships across the organisation to gather content, manage expectations and keep activity moving
- Maintain trackers, calendars and systems that enable visibility and efficient delivery of communications
- Support a culture of accountability, responsiveness and continuous improvement
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Digital Communications, Digital Marketing, Media or a related field
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in delivering high-volume digital communications across email, website and social media platforms
- Strong experience using content management systems such as WordPress and email marketing platforms
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience coordinating communications workflows across teams and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high-quality communications materials at pace
- Experience creating digital content and assets aligned to brand guidelines and that elevate voice and profile

- Highly organised, with strong planning, prioritisation and time management skills
- Strong digital capability and confidence working across platforms and tools
