As we prepare to open Sandcastles (Boodja Mia), Western Australia’s first children’s hospice, we’re building a team in partnership with the Child and Adolescent Health Service to help deliver a transformative model of paediatric palliative care. About Sandcastles (Boodja Mia) Children’s Hospice
Opening in mid 2026, Sandcastles Children’s Hospice is a purpose built, worldclass paediatric hospice located along Western Australia’s stunning coastline. The hospice will provide state-wide specialist paediatric palliative care for children and young people who are living with life limiting or life-threatening conditions, as well as support for their families.
This state-of-the-art hospice will be the first of its kind in Western Australia. Designed to be a calm, welcoming and a home away from home facility, the hospice will offer specialised paediatric palliative care in an environment that prioritises joyful memory making and meaningful connection.

About the role
The Support Services Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all non-clinical operations at Sandcastles Children’s Hospice. Reporting to the CEO, you will lead a small, dedicated team to deliver high quality support services that enhance the experience of children with life limiting conditions and their families.
Working closely with the hospice clinical team and Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), you will help ensure a seamless, respectful, and integrated guest experience. While the role is nonclinical, it requires strong clinical understanding, emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead confidently within a sensitive and complex care environment.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the nonclinical foundations of a new, purpose-built children’s hospice ahead of its opening.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day‑to‑day delivery of the non‑clinical operations at Sandcastles Children’s Hospice, ensuring experiences are compassionate, high quality and family‑centred.
- Champion the hospice vision, embedding a warm, inclusive, and child‑ and family‑focused experience in every aspect of operations.
- Partner closely with CAHS clinical leaders to deliver a seamless, integrated, and respectful experience.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, service providers, donors and government stakeholders connected to the hospice.
- Ensure the hospice environment is safe, welcoming, compliant, and well maintained, working collaboratively on facilities, safety, and risk management.
- Play a key role in planning, coordinating and continuously improving non‑clinical services and guest experiences.
- Contribute to budget planning, forecasting and operational reporting for hospice‑related activities.
- Act as a senior leader within the Foundation, contributing to strategic planning, governance, and cross‑organisational initiatives.
About You
You’re an experienced operational leader with a deep commitment to compassionate care. You bring emotional resilience, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to lead in a pioneering, emotionally complex environment. You will understand that joyful, memorable experiences and a connected hospice community will be the key measures of success at Sandcastles.
You’ll bring:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an operational management role within healthcare, human services, palliative care, or a similarly complex, people‑centred environment.
- Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams and coordinating non‑clinical support services.
- Strong stakeholder engagement capability, including effective collaboration with clinical teams, government services and external providers.
- Experience overseeing facilities, guest services, family engagement or community‑focused events and experiences.
- Confidence working in trauma‑informed environments, with an understanding of grief, loss, and family‑centred care.
- High emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to lead calmly and compassionately in sensitive situations.
- Sound knowledge of WHS, risk management and child safeguarding practices, supported by strong organisational skills.
